Hello one and all...

I have decided that I would like to replace the current stereo in my '98 (S) 996 Carrera 2 with a sat nav system. Nothing too expensive and I am not really interested in a screen that pops out, but does anyone have any recommendations?

I have found this one on the web: http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod2805.html

And this one: http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-sony-mex...

The prices seems pretty good to me, but I don't know much about Sat Nav to be honest. I wouldn't want to spend too much more than that as I may as well just get a Tom Tom and live with the fact that I have to peel it off the screen every time I get out of the car.

iPod connectivity would be good... But I could go without!

Any help is much appreciated!

They are Becker units re-badged. Good indeed. I however am having some trouble with mine. Nothing too bad!

I was considering a Blaupunkt TravelPilot for my SLK32, but the hassle of trying to integrate it with the wretched Bose low impedance speaker system looked prohibitively expensive.

Shame, it's a very nice unit:

So now I just use the excellent Garmin nüvi 660 on a dashboard mount (can't abide window suckers). A much more cost-effective option than the Blaupunkt in my case.

Thanks for the replies!

The Blaupunkt one looks very nice, but I see what you mean about 'cost effective', I guess it isn't cheap, according to the websites I have looked at, at least!

I think it may well be the Becker one then - Many thanks!

I was just about to mention a blaupunkt one, as I've heard good things about them.

Did you find a good one in the end?

I am looking for a sat-nav CD for my 996 as old one is broken, don't suppose you know anyone who does these though your research?

Thanks

Other than the links I posted before... No idea I am afraid to say!

In the end I gave up and went with a Navman for £90 from Tesco. Now it lives in the lockable cubby hole between the seats and comes out when we need it... I think it is the way forward price and ability-wise!

Good luck,

Dom
