hey guys

new to the world of sat navs and my girlfriend and I are planning a 3 week stay in cape town (south africa). could someone suggest a suitable system that is compatible with south african roads.

I want something that I can obviously use on my return to the Uk but I also dont want to spend a fortune. Because im not familiar with the way these systems work does one require a memory card, and are the maps available to down-load off the internet. I suppose there are hidden charges for anything.

any advice would be greatly appreciated
cheers

Buy a map, cheaper, simpler to use and safer!! No real need for sat nav is SA, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Garden Route etc are simple places to drive around, and Jo'Burg is a no go zone, the suburbs are easily read from a map.

Save your money and enjoy the wine!!

tomtom possibly is your best bet for sa sat nav. May be worth google.co.za satnav to see compatible devices.

Would recommend using a sat nav in SA, as you don't want to get lost and end up in the wrong area - might also be worth paying more attention to the route the device is suggesting than normal

Cape Town is a doddle to find your way around. Small city. Having said that a satnav will help in anticipating lane turnoffs etc and quickly finding POI's (restaurants, tourist attractions etc). Just don't ever leave it in the car unattended. I'd suggest a TomTom One or XL and a £60 map of South Africa which you download and copy across to an SD card.
