I have had an Indago SatNav for approaching three years. I don't have any other satnav to compare it with but it has one serious irritation - it has to go back to Performance Products for all updates other than its camera database. Well to be accurate it is just the SD card that has to be returned but last time I tried that the SD card was lost in the post (on the return journey) and the whole unit had to be returned for a replacement to be fitted.

Now for the question - what facilities do other satnavs have for on-line updates of software and mapping? In the 21st century I would have though that on-line updates would be the norm.

Most of my issues have been with crashes or mapping errors. When I bought the satnav I was misled into believing that on-line updates applied to everything and not just camera data. Performance Products have repeatedly informed me that they are investigating providing a CD update service but with no indication of when.

The most recent saga (still ongoing) is that the satellite receiver failed and I had to send the satnav back. They very quickly sent a NEW unit back with updated software installed. Unfortunately there is a new bug in the software in that the Specs camera detection does not work properly. Although I have only had the unit back for two weeks I now have to send the SD card back for yet another softweare update to fix it. No offer to reimburse postage.

This now the third significant software problem I have had. Do ther satnavs suffer from similar types of fault?

I had too many problems with mine to persevere. I have eventually given up on it, and bought a TomTom XL. The Indago has some features that are better than the TT, but at least i now get a signal pretty much straight away, and keep it!

TomTom software and mapping updates are by download. But they are not a perfect supplier. I was annoyed by bugs in a downloaded update, and reverted to the previous software version (I had good online support). I am going to try the next software version shortly.
