Which Sat Nav for South Africa ?

My wifes father is over here(UK) on holiday for a couple months and wants to buy a Sat Nav which he can take back to South Africa and use ,now my question is if he buys one over here and then purchases additional maps for SA would it work out more expensive than just buying one in SA ? Any ideas which wpuld be the best choice for him to buy if he were to go down that route?
