I have a tom tom one with the plug in traffic ariel, and it does not seem to work properly, occasionally (and i mean ocasionally) it will pick up a delay and tell me its here, but does not tell me how long the wait will be etc, (Compared to a friends whose says whether the traffic is stationary, how long the que is etc etc, although his uses the GPRS on his phone...) I ask it to plan the fastest route, taking into account the traffic, it always takes me the original route. (i was sat between junction 6-8 of the M1 for well an hour the other day) also it seems to struggle to get signal most of the time

Does anyone else experiance these types of problems?? or know if there is anything i could be doing wrong? or is it likely that it is genuinly faulty.

TomTom uses three different services for traffic:

1) the TMC antenna version which simply picks up the TMC data that is transmitted via radio channels, low frequency of updates and basic information;

2) the GPRS mobile phone based system which gets it's data on a more regular basis from a subscription based service;

3) the new HD Traffic system (on the new TomTom x40 range) which provides the most regular and accurate traffic info available by collecting travel data from all the TomToms with the HD Traffic service, plus extra info from all the other traffic services they've paid to get data from.

1 is the most basic (and I find useless), 2 is the standard one, and 3 will be the best.
