I don't think it's gone down too well. It's rather expensive for the European maps and the fact that you must pay extra for the bracket is a quite knaff and a massive let-down.

I know you then have the convenience of having it with you all the time, but a European TomTom unit with all the iPhone features costs LESS (€95) than the iPhone TomTom European software so I'm still trying to work that out.

Surely since you are not paying for hardware (no bracket), the software should cost no more than €50 without the bracket and €100 with!?!!?!?!

For the kind of money I have to pay for the TomTom iPhone software and bracket, I can buy a TomTom Go 730 unit which offers me much more.....

Not impressed irked

You're just paying for the 'convenience' of having only the iphone, as opposed to seperate dedicated hardware.

They know many people will pay for it simply because they have an Iphone - I must admit, I have a tomtom in my car, and am considering buying this one - once the bugs are sorted and cradle comes onto ebay / amazon cheaper.

If I, being quite sceptical about it am thinking about buying it, then I'm sure others will definately buy it!

If they could now integrate a hands free kit / radio transmitter in the cradle, then that would be worth buying!

No you can't. Not really worth it though IMO, better of with a cheap windscreen mount then get a Kensington LiquidAux to connect up the dock connector to the 12v socket and aux sockcet, thats what I'm doing anyway.

Exactly how good is copilot?

sorely tempted by it but cant find any reviews on youtube to see what its like.
I've been a huge TomTom fan for years, but 2 years ago the missus got CoPilot with her Windows phone - it was pretty good.

She downloaded the iPhone version this weekend and it seems spot on... for £50 cheaper than TomTom, I'd save your cash...

Been running TomTom on the iphone for 24hrs now....works perfect. Very impressed.

Bit pricey but wifey shares my itunes account so any aps we buy we both get on each of our iphones....so we now have two Satnavs for the price of one biggrin

Needs tweeks but hey, its only a day old!

T

One tweek that is a must (for me) would be turning the sound off (i NEVER have the talking directions) but leave the speed cam alert on.

Thanks for the info, i'll look into one of those.

If it was me I would have brought out the TomTom cradle with the bracket, because now everyone with the app will be buying the cheap non TT ones of ebay etc, seems a bit of an oversight from TomTom. The main advantage with the official TomTom bracket is the increased GPS reception... If i remember correctly the iphone only has A-GPS which isn't as accurate as proper GPS.

I have found the tomtom iphone sat nav fine - my main reason for (at first) wanting the doc was the better sat nav but i'm not sure i'll bother. It does need a doc for power as it seems to EAT juice on tomtom but the sat nav is fine...seems fast (as fast as my in car sat nav on the Galaxy) and certainly fit for purpose. I have never lost the signal (in only 2 days to be fair!) and only once or twice has it put me off the road (although i was in the sticks so could have been the map not the GPS)

I've always found the iphone GPS good...i use Runkeeper to track my jogging. It relays the info to my desktop and the mapping easily shows detail such as when i cross the road, etc. In fact, at one point i could see easilly where i had left the pavement to pass some skips that where blocking my route....a deviation of just 6ft or so.

Thanks Tiggsy! That was just the kind of reply I was hoping for smile Runkeeper also sounds pretty useful. Thanks

You can also try Trails or the more popular GPS Motion X. They cost just £1.99 and are both superb applications for tracking and uploading the GPS files to several services or direct to your email for use in Google Earth.

got to say runkeeper is great....set it up however you like - have it tell you every 5/10/20 mins what your stats are...or have it tell you at bespoke intervals whether its fast, slow, etc (great for HIT jogging!)

Listen to your music while you run, etc...get home...hit STOP and thats it. Auto sends your run to the internet site so when you log on the web on your pc your run is there, miles per week, map, etc, etc....has run, bike, jog, walk settings.

I just turn it on, stick it in the pocket of my camel pack and off i go...great little tool.

What's the best cradle to get for an iPhone? - preferably one charger and / or some kind of decent cable management.

It's to do in a lease car, so nothing that can't be removed, prefer nothing on vents either.

Oh, and the power socket is in the centre arm-rest, not in the dash.

Am I best biting the bullet and going for a decent Brodit mount?

The iPhone, like many smartphones, has GPS. There isn't a cut down version. It's either GPS or nothing.

AGPS means that it's assisted by the 3G network (if supported) and can find satellites significantly faster.

Excuse me for being a bit dumb in this, i'm looking to get the Iphone 16gb (when I can find one, non around it seems) and need a new satnav, 2 birds 1 stone here.

The cradle it seems is being sold (with the software...uk alone) for £114

http://www.mobilecomputermag.co.uk/200908061388/to...

Software is £60 so the cost of the dock £55....less than I expected to be honest and presumably the euro version will be around £130 for the whole package

The dock is obviously useful, but interested to know about the speed of the GPS in the iPhone, surely tomtom wouldnt bother with a new reciever unless the original GPS was lacking somewhat.

Are speed camera's loaded onto the software?, can't find info anywhere.
Surely the call interuption would be something that could be worked out, a huge problem really considering that the Tomtom standalones can navigate and accept calls at the same time.

Also with the sharing of software, how does this work....can you just plug in another Iphone and upload it, or is there some registration to do within Itunes? (again I am new to this)

Yup, it's very expensive and I was very disappointed by this. I truly wanted TomTom on my iPhone and this was one of the biggest reasons I didn't buy it.

My friend has been using iPhone TomTom for about a week now. He's told me the iPhone GPS is ok but it's not as good as a stand-alone unit which is understandable. He's told me the signal disappears under heavy foliage and whilst driving in city streets with high buildings, however it's not that bad as to make it unusable!

Yes, there are.

This problem is a pain in the arse and the second reason I didn't buy the software. You totally loose the satnav software while the call is placed. Totally illogical and perhaps TomTom and Apple will resolve this but for now it makes the application useless.

Easy done! Just plug in another iPhone and add the application to the new device under the same iTunes account.

Ultimately, I've decided to buy a TomTom go unit. I can do everything I want without having to buy an additional cradle, use hands-free calling with the integrated bluetooth and also have my music playing all the time whilst doing this. The iPhone TomTom can't do this and it also costs the same as the Go 730 unit!!!!

A bit of a let-down to be honest.....
