I'm surprised Volvo drivers are being called out to be honest.

I've come across quite a few Volvo drivers making decent progress and that are clearly very aware of their surroundings.

If there is a direct correlation between driving and parking, then going by the parking thread in GG, it's probably a Picasso.

2. Enormous premium brand SUV’s...... The people driving them seem unable to park sensibly, judge following distances etc.
I must be the exception that proves your rule, then. I drive, and passed the IAM test in, a BMW X3.
I take your point, though, that there seems to be an awful lot of people in charge of SUVs who shouldn't be allowed to call themselves "drivers".

Seriously what's the point of this thread.

Do all BMW owners drive too fast?

All MX5 owners all hairdressers?

Do all Frenchmen eat garlic?

Its nonsense.

And all Audi drivers are incapable of operating their indicators - as are all taxi drivers.

Given that less than 1 per cent of the population take advanced driving seriously the default position is surely simple....

All other road users are not advanced drivers
The chances of coming across another advanced driver are slim to non existent

Your driving plan should thus reflect this

In addition you should also be vigilantly on the look out for other road users style and actions and appreciate good road positioning, vision, progress etc etc. This will assist in your decision making about what you do and is a significant part of an advanced drivers plan in the modern environment in which we find ourselves.

A taxi pulled out on me yesterday as I was just about alongside him. He had his hazards on, so sort of indicating. I gave him a beep and he brake tested me for my troubles.

Then went back to talking st about his passengers to his friend on the phone and shifting up at 1700rpm.

And yet when they deliver you home safe and sound at 4am on a wet and cold Sunday morning after getting paralytic, you love them.

What a shame my local Police don't feel the need to follow the advice offered in the highway code. Kind of makes it seem like driving like a tw@ is ok?

I need to visit the opticians, because I'm searching through the thread, but I still don't see where I said "I fking hate taxi drivers", unless.. no it couldn't be. Could it be possible that I simply pointed out that taxi drivers, dare I say it? That they occasionally talk about their passengers to their friends? eek Oh I stand corrected, they never do that, and they certainly never shift at 1700rpm. In fact, they're the greatest drivers on the road yes

But sarcasm aside, them doing their job wouldn't change the fact that they're the sttest drivers on the road. At least the days are gone of being picked up in a knackered Cavalier or Accord with blown rear shocks, had a taxi the other day that was a well specced 535d, only a few years old. Had one that was a Model S too. I guess the days of T reg Toyotas are gone.

I used to be plod, one night I was bored, and sat back from some lights waiting for them to turn red and someone jump them.....

sure enough a Taxi did after about 3 seconds of red, so I followed him out....pulled him over.

1. he denied they were red
2. he smelt of booze....so bagged him (later twice the limit)
3. I asked him if he had anything in the car he shouldn't.....there was something about him other than the booze) He said "No" so I told him he would n't mind me looking in his boot....opened it to find 4 VHS recorders (it was in the early 90's) and about half a dozen car radio's ( he later got done for "Handling stolen property)
4.On asking for his licence, he said it was at home. So I dug further and found he only had a provisional licence. (7 years he had been driving people as a Taxi driver)

So Yes ....all Taxi drivers are the salt of the earth, safe, honest and great drivers, they should all be given "God like driving status"

So when people used to say "Have you nothing F'ing better to do?" when I pulled them over, this one particular "nick" made it all worth while )( Oh I used to reply "No!" smile

That’s a very good example of why we need more traffic police. The chances of an officer having time to look for someone jumping a red light now is negligible.

No, in my experience everyone else drives too slowly! laugh

I've no "advanced" qualifications, but did pass an ARDS test so what with that and being on here I am obviously a driving god! laugh

Honda Jazz.... particularly the model with the black 'vent' style things in the rear bumper.
