Question to the IAM's

With the on set of electric cars which have their own peculiarities regenerative braking, E-pedal, no gears!! etc will the advance driving style instruction change going forward. Keen to know as I am a combustion engine lover with a Porsche and an old land rover but have been running a plug in hybrid as a company car for the last 3 years and will be going full electric soon but only for cost savings.

I do find them dull and boring by the way.

My take on applying AD techniques in a Tesla:

I’m sort of half considering a full electric car when I’m due to change in spring next year...

Thanks Reg
Very interesting video
So principles are easily transferred on this new technology.

Apart from the different power source, they’re still just cars with suspension & steering & tyres & accelerators & brakes.

The power delivery & retardation feels different & there is no transmission - so no gear phase if you’re driving to the system - but otherwise, they’re just like any other car.

Genuine question. Why would the principles of roadcraft need adapting for EVs, other than dispensing with certain aspects?

I did my IAM last year before I switched to an EV but didn't need to adapt, other than the fact that you can't really control the braking round corners as distinctly. Otherwise, like an auto, your hands never really need to leave the steering wheel and there are no gears to change. This eliminates BG overlap issues, being in the correct gear etc. I've found it great as I have more time to focus on the job at hand i.e. observation.

Interesting how you don't find the Landover boring/dull but each to their own I guess.

Don't worry, there's absolutely no shame in enjoying an EV.

I was being facetious as I found it amusing you felt the need to caveat you op with the petrol head/EV statement hehe

One interesting additional facet of EVs is the ability to hear things you can't hear in a ICE vehicle!

Driving my i3, you can actually hear the tyres griping (or slipping..... ;-) ) or the lack of tyre noise on slippery surfaces etc.

Yes driving an EV is certainly a surreal experience.

If one took an IAM course in one would it be seen in any less light than a manual vehicle?

Yes. I've since had mine revoked and now have to retake the course and test.

Seriously ? or a piss take?

Mine was a genuine question!! with less to think about ie BGOL surely its got to be an easier option?
