What is no buses sign for?

I caused carnage earlier as I reversed out of a road I was turning into when I saw said sign. That’s due to the level of paranoia I’ve been led to have by our wonderful london boroughs, and I’m not paying a fine for no fker. (I thought it must mean buses only)

Anyway when home I googled the sign and in fact it is a ‘no buses more than 8 passenger seats’, except local buses. (A double decker turned in while I was there by the way!). But if you think about it, what’s the point? All London buses are on a route, so they’re not going to randomly go down a road they’re not allowed to. And no others ‘buses’ are going to be travelling around london side roads?

It’ll be to prevent private hire coaches from parking or using an unsuitable road for access etc. Similar to the 7.5t lorry restriction signs that you quite often see, which specifically don’t apply to buses/coaches but are intended to prevent big lorries thundering down small residential or otherwise unsuitable roads.

Obvious to me - no vehicles that can carry 8 or more passengers. Exceptions underneath will say if buses are allowed (and therefore minibuses and coaches are prohibited).
Confirms my views of re-tests and re-learning Highway Code should be a regular occurrence.

Not to "lecture" OP but for future reference if an unfamiliar sign is encountered - red circle is basically banning everything inside it.

Except when it has nothing inside it. Then it's banning everything. #Paradox

Not quite the same but been enjoying this one recently while I’m staying somewhere nearby. Both sides have right of way in some kind of st traffic calming. Is this allowed? What’s the point in give way etc if they can just make it up as they go along.

All those signs are saying (in effect) is you need to drive in the road (i.e. you need to pass to the right of the one on the left and to the left of the one on the right). It's not normal but there's nothing about right of way, would just treat it like any other obstruction.

Am guessing it's cause ppl accidentally drive over the pavement at night or something....

(On the "not visible at night" theory these are not that far away from me and they can be difficult to see in the evening - take a look at the state of the pavement where folk have whacked in to them.

The sign in the OP is about 100m from Golders Green tube station which has a small coach station out front for airport coaches and general National Express coaches.

Probably had related issues in the past.

Effectively this is just a very short section of single track road without the usual oncoming tractors. I think it's a good idea because it prevents drivers approaching it too fast when there are oncoming vehicles which happens when one side has priority. Direct the drivers into a head on collision. They'll slow down.

There are signs at the T junctions of the following side roads: Granville Road, Wayside, The Ridgeway, and Woodstock Road.
But not, AFAICS, at Dunstan Road or Rodborough Road. How does that work then, LB Barnet?
