Has it changed much over the years? Should I buy the latest copy, mines from the mid 90's.

Depends what you mean by mid 90s...

I've got one dated 1993, 16th impression of the 1977 edition which has a blue cover with a couple of flat cap cops in a 1970s Wolsey (or summat - I'm too young to recognise the interior!!) on the front.

The other one I have is the 2001 sixth impression of the 1997 edition with a yellow cover (the 5th from 1999-ish had a dark purpley blue cover IIRC).

There's lots of good writing in the 1993 one, but the 2001 one is much better illustrated in the style of the highway code. I've given my 1999 version away, but IIRC there was not much difference between that and 2001.

Don't think it's changed much since 2001, but prepared to be corrected!

Hope this helps.

Edited to add:
Just read your post on SP&L - if you've got course - mirror, speed & signal - gear - mirrors & signals - horn - accelerate, in your Roadcraft, then you are indeed in 1977-land. All the cool kids these days are doing IPSGA, time to upgrade!

Nick,

It is indeed the Blue Cover with the flat caps.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look at updating.

Woody,

IAM HQ should tell me Monday - I will post when I have more info.

When I passed, during the de-brief, the examiner pointed out that my copy of Roadcraft was 15 years old and that MSM had been replaced by IPSGA...he passed me as the principles of the System were the same.
