A lot of good roadcraft thinking going on here. I would like to think that before you've committed yourself to the overtaking maneouvre, that you've already been aware of the likely intentions of your overtakee. I mean by obseving his "body language" how far has he been off the rear bumper of the car in front? Has he previously placed his car for an intended overtake when it's just not been on? A double overtake manouvre, by virtue of it being discussed at length here means that it can be a potential hazard only to be committed to when you are 100% sure of the outcome.

I really have to agree with some of the previous comments regarding NSL vs 30/40 limils and driver speeds. When one overtakes the fourtyevrywherenumpties at 70 in a NSL you can feel the old codgers thinking "he won't get there any quicker you know". Of course I won't, because the likes of you will do 45 mph in a 30 limit passed a school without thinking twice, while I'm travelling at 25 to 30, watching out for the little tykes who might run out between the parked cars. But hey, the art of good driving is to always expect the other driver to do something silly - and be pleasently surprised when they don't.
