germany dosn't have this problem for some reason or france

after overtaking people move over

however ther late manouvers are shocking

but people do pay attention on autobahns

death does concentrate the mind

Is this because there's the possibility of someone in a Merc / Porsche / BMW approaching at 155mph +, compared to the "relatively" small difference in speeds on our Motorways?
Perhaps because of our congestion / poor driving standards we're more like America where overtaking is allowed on either side?

I've also driven in Norway. Their equivalent to a Motorway looks like our hard shoulder plus lane 1. You drive in the lane but if someone approaches you from behind at higher speed it's your responsibility to pull onto the "hard shoulder". This promotes use of the rear view mirror in a similar way to the autobahns.

I come across plenty of people on teh outside lane on dual carriageways, usually having set their cruise control to 1 mph below the speed limit.

So you sit there, patiently.

Nothing.

You both pass a truck. a mile down the road.

So you pull in and sit on his inside.

Nothing.

So the only option to make progress is to either:

1) tailgate him, be aggressive, flash lights etc or
2) shoot past on the inside working on the principle that he hasn't changed lanes for 8 miles, so he is umlikely to in the 3 seconds it takes me to get past or:
3) take a twisty country lane instead!!

I am lucky that I only really drive at the weekends, but Sunday lunchtime traffic is some of the most shockingly ignorant I have ever seen!!

I will confess to occasional middle-lane hogging.
In heavy rain on the M4, the ruts (canals) in the inside lane left by trucks don't combine well with a relatively light car with wide tyres. Water skiing comes to mind. I would have to drive seriously slowly to feel confident of any grip on some stretches where the ruts are particularly bad.
