Hi there,

I would say welcome but i've literally just signed up myself!

What's an anti-terrorist permit when it's at home?

Welcome! wavey

If you want advice on buying an S3, this is probably the best place to go on here: www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/forum.asp?f=86&h=0.

It basically involves a 2 week course of shredding tyres, perfecting both J and Y turns amongst other things. The best course I have ever done. It just means that I am on a list of drivers that can drive for the royal family (apart from the Queen who has her own driver, naturally as she's not likely to let an oik like myself drive her!). Looking forward to a course with Bentley in the coming months.

Welcome to the site!

sounds like fun with a capital F.

Seconded!

Welcome sergeantspeed! thumbup
You might find the Speed, Plod & the Law forum... interesting, too.

You might want to check out either of these websites....

www.s2000-4u.co.uk

www.fontain.co.uk

They both have a decent selection of S3's......

At present I'm having to pilot a very heavy and underpowered 1999 E36 318is Sport Coupe with a paltry 140bhp. It is even more embarassing as my wife can currently out gun me in her 2002 MX5 1.8i. VERY embarassing!!!!

Enjoy the roads where you can, sadly not often these days......

Sergeantspeed.

Oi, racing on public roads is not on; I thought you might have known that.

Anyhow it just so happens that Eileen has bought a 2002 MX5 1.8i - a nice bright red thing - which I'm told has 130 bhp.

....so my poor old 406 HDi 90 may also be in danger of being out-gunned - but not if I can help it. evil

Incidentally, I do enjoy the roads, frequently - but then I live in civilisation, where some of the old ways still apply - and long may they do so.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Imagine one lane, a line of parked cars parked either side of it.
One car missing from one of the lines.
Reverse, spin it under control in that space & drive off in the other direction.

Hi! As a totally new visitor to this site and (cringe) a police sergeant with both an advanced driving and VIP counter terrorist permit I can understand the frustrations of the honest speed loving motorist. Now let me get a few things straight before you start to nod off!;
1) I hate Gatso's and mobile camera vans as much as the next man, currently having won another 3 points thanks to a mobile van sitting in some temporary road works (with no-one working)!
1) I have never hand on heart persecuted the genuine speed loving motorist, as I prefer to use my discretion when dealing with people who love their cars and may have just got a bit over enthusiastic on occasions!
3) In my local force area, the police do not staff or have anything to do with the mobile 'enforcement' vans. So spread the word!

I am currently enjoying the prospect of trading my old E36 coupe in and I'm on the hunt for a nice Audi S3 for around £11k. Anyone got any tips on what to look for. I have driven one (225 bhp) and would love to get a nice one and chip it to 265bhp.

Take care out there

SergeantSpeed

You for real?
An highly trained professional driver in the Law enforcement business.
"Another 3 points"?
Totalling how many?
Observation?
Anticipation?
So why should any of the rest of us have any respect?
Anyway, forget the S3, get a Scooby or Evo.

Evenin' All. Well Serge' you will soon discover that you are one of several cop on this site. Some serving, some retired but all making welcome and valuable contributions. As mentioned above the Speed, Plod and the Law forum may be of interest but don't be surprised if there is some hostility. However, the majority of posts there are similar to your case - just pcensoredd off at the futile behaviour of certain enforcement agencies.

Just to clarify.....Another 3 points was with regard to the fact that 3 years ago when travelling through an industrial urban area which both myself and my wife thought was a 40 limit, a mobile van sat the other side of a bridge caught me at 41mph. Just as I has got my clean licence back, I then again got caught in some temporary roadworks again at 41mph!! On this occasion the 30 limit was at the bottom of the slip road, where again a mobile van was waiting. I really wouldn't mind but it was 2pm and there were no workers to be seen. You are right about the observation thing of course, but hey we're all human!!
As for the S3, it appeals more for its subtlety, as a Subaru or Evo would just be asking my colleagues to speak to me on my days off!!![/quote]

Don't mind me, I just like to challenge.
I'm pleased to see that there are still those in your occupation with some of the "Old School" about them.
Those who realise that the current thrust of Road Safety policy is not the correct one.
I'm from the age when Traffic Officers had the view that if you were stopped for excessive speed it was your fault for not using your mirrors.
Observation then.
Now it's not so simple.
Go on, at least test a Scooby or Evo.
I've a Scooby, clean licence, never even been stopped for a check.
