While we have discussed how to entice the young ones into the mindset that most of us here would endorse, I also think that we should not forget that once anyone of any age has embraced this approach it is likely that the internalisation of this will probably mean that they will remain more capable into old age than those never exsposed to this attitude to driving.
Important with our current age demographic outlook.
Which is why I find the numbers of those who have undertaken the various Advanced tests so, well, dispiriting.
Just imagine if every driver drove to the Roadcraft way?

Agreed,

As an Observer, I notice that the younger drivers have, no doubt, quicker reactions.

I recently gave a check drive to a 74 year old whom I got through the Test 4 years ago...great, safe, Systematic drive...Observation = more planning = less NEED for quick reactions.

Advanced Driving definitely benefits the older driver. Helps to keep the observation sharp.

Sadly its upon retirement that many drivers finally think about doing an Advanced Test - we get a significant proportion of these at our Group. Don't get me wrong - its good that they want to do it at any age. I would just like to see more young people passing the test and enjoying the benefits throughout their lives. I'd be especially happy to have more teenagers coming to the group - as they have the least work to do and the most to gain from improving their driving in many ways.

Advanced skills don't make up for maturity and experience - but every little helps.
