Fast road driving and how you hold the wheel...
Discussion
When I was learning track driving, I found that I ran out of lock quite frequently when using quarter-to-three rotational steering. I now realise that's because my lines were crap and I was steering too much.
I have since found that quarter-to-three is the only way my proprioception works properly and I get right confused about where I am if doing anything else - so now I use it on the road too. Armed with this new knowledge I have yet to find a roundabout or even a 1st-gear T-Junction that requires a shuffle; it's astounding how using even six inches more of the tarmac width reduces the need for steering inputs.
If you're using more than an armful of lock at over 20mph it's probably because you've run out of grip!

My experience is that there are quite often situations that need more lock than I can apply with a fixed grip. If it's something that you find difficult I suggest you work on it, because you're going to feel very silly indeed if you fall off the road because you couldn't apply enough lock in the heat of the moment.
Fair comment, but I didn't say I'd binned shuffling altogether - I can still get onto the stops in a hurry if I need to. In fact I've found using rotational steering has strangely made me quicker at grabbing huge armfuls of lock quickly.
What situations - other than car parks - do you find you need it? Opp lock and HBTs excepted.
