So anyone else like me worry that your going to make some huge mistake on your demo drive?

When I was doing the drive to demonstrate my suitability for Observer status I made a potentially massive f*ck up at the first junction. I didn't cause an accident or cause the other vehicle to alter his course, but boy did I feel stupid. It just goes to show that we all make mistakes when we feel under pressure.

I find I can make 'em without being under pressure - and that's only the ones I recognise!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

As far as I know there has never been any discrimination against Autos by the IAM. I have one of their manuals (no pun intended) from the mid '70's, bought as a charity shop curio, that includes correct use of the automatic selector in the gear changing section (it also has a cutaway diagram of a mark one Granada labelled "modern family car" but we'll forget that for now).

As the IAM test is more about proper car control I can't see why the Smart car should pose a problem. By the way I'm far worse at driving automatics than manuals, I had a go in a Proton Persona slushbox once and kept wheelspinning when moving off and tramping the brakes too hard to stop. This would almost certainly lead to failiure in the observed drive.
