I have just been asked if I would become a Senior Observer for our IAM Group. Now - in our Group this means doing cross-checks (the internal test prior to being put forward for test) and helping out Observers with any "problem" Associates. It also means doing at least 20 hours a year of Observation: no problem.

I understand that there is training and an extended test - not just driving - but also a test of coaching.

Anyone done this recently? Any useful things to know in advance?

Not worried about either driving (recently got a Rospa Gold) or coaching particularly. More worried about testing to a standard which would be a new part to my duties.

Don,

I did the Senior a few years ago...from memory...out with our Chief Observer in tandem with another Observer for about 4 drives role playing...making deliberate mistakes to see if they were picked up...really seeing how well we could pass on the message.

"My name is Rob..what can I call you?" I got a laugh with "Mavis".

Then a Test by a Class 1 in which the two of us did the role playing and a tough debrief session.

Finally a multiple choice written paper - I still have it somewhere...think you have my e mail... if you want to give me your address off Forum I will mail a copy to you?

BOF.

PS - I have just prepared the other Observers daughter to Test ready

Not especially recently but in the last three years or so.

From the sound of things you will be well up to standard. Just drive as you normally do to a "Gold" standard, and give relevant feedback to your "associate" at an appropriate level, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

N.

Don - When I did mine it was the same as BOF. I do believe it has changed now though. I've no doubt you'll be fine!

Good luck and well done on the Gold. I got mine a few months back too. Have you seen this ......?
