Hi guys,

New to the Volvo section, I'm here as my Audi V6 has just catastrophically expired and I'm on the hunt for a car. Always had a soft spot for the S60 and now find myself looking at 2002-2003 examples with 85k-90k on the clock.

Thought I'd turn to the PH massive to ask if there's anything I should be aware of with regard to either the 2.0T or 2.4T engines? Does either have any weak points? Is the extra 20bhp noticeable? I'm leaning towards the 2.4T but there seem to be more 2.0Ts around, plus the insurance is slightly cheaper (I'm a 20 year old student so this still matters... a bit hehe) Oh, and it will be a manual, so don't worry about Geartronic horror stories!

Any advice would be greatly received.
Thanks
Adam

Well the thing is, I'm after something that is going to feel as quick, or quicker, than the Audi (148bhp/ton). It also made a glorious noise, so while it'll probably be a lot quiter anyway, a petrol model it's going to be I'm afraid!

Just found your thread Adam,

Erm, you do realise even the 2.4T is only 140bhp/ton? The T5 is 175bhp/ton. If you want something noticeably quicker than the Audi, get the T5. Not driven the 2.0 or 2.4, but having just spent Monday and Tuesday driving 500 miles around Wales, I can confirm the sound of the T5 is not something you can miss out on.

I knew the 2.4 was slightly lower but it wasn't enough to put me off. As I said in my email reply, found a facelift T5 (so 260bhp 2.4) for sale so if it's still there when I get back to Loughborough next week I'll go check it out.

As far as i'm aware the 2.0 is only and I4, so you wont get the nice noise.

As for experience? My Dad put over 130,000miles on his 2.4T v70. The only thing other than service items was a wheel bearing and a throttle position sensor. He tends to used the pedals like switches, they're on, or they're off. So i would say they seem pretty bullet proof. lol
The E320 he had next went wrong about once a month in comparison.

Maybe worth drawing a line under this one now as I went on a day trip yesterday and bought a lovely black 2.4T. So nice to have a car that rides properly again hehe

Thanks for all the advice anyway guys!

Given we all helped you out / coerced you into buying it (!), a readers ride thread or at least some pics and a little write-up here would be nice.

I'll sort a readers cars thread (I usually do) but just need to get some decent photos of it, been working at Snetterton all weekend and didn't take it so haven't had much chance do many miles yet! Not got much on today so will sort it out smile
