Roger, is this an Auto or a manual?
How are you getting on with it so far?
I'm on the look out for one (54/05 reg), but can't find anything local at the moment - missed out on a corker last week as well grr!
All ok so far, mine is Auto and I intend on running it for a very long time, I want to double the miles to 1/4 million! How are you getting on with it so far?

Be patient, it took an age to find one that was not the other end of the UK!
People! - I park my car in a reasonable road in East Grinstead each day and I noticed when I got home today that some little tt had decided to scratch right down the side of the car, front to back, this is on top of someone catching the back bumper last week, I ask you is it worth having anything vaughley(SP?) nice now days
By way of a short update, car has done 142,000 miles now and plodding along just fine, there are a couple of little bits I need to get sorted but nothing to much.
It generally gets used local doing only 14 miles a day to work and does not get a run out to often as the family XC90 shed does the longer runs but last Saturday I had a run from Crawley to Hull and back and did 540 miles and it returned 52.9 MPG, very pleased with that.
This one will be with me hopefully for a long while.
New tyres and a dam good clean later in the month

Mot time tomorrow, had a dam good clean today, almost a year's dirt on the car fingers crossed almost 146000 miles I'm thinking that it's not far off wheels off and down to lepsons for polishing and maybe getting the dents sorted etc, I can't see me parting with this one when a new toy comes along hopefully next year sometime. Anyone have an idea what dent master kind of companies charge per panel to sort dents ?

Just a wee update, sitting at 157000 miles now and still going well, drove to Loughborough to pick a caravan up yesterday and it towed really well coming back, doing plenty of miles again and I think it would have done a good 20000 this year by new MOT. As a by the by the fuel calculator said 55 mpg to get the van and 36 coming back!

Thanks to all for a very informative thread. I'm about to buy a 110,000 miles 05 2.0t SE from a friend for shed money. I like the car which has a full and known service history (albeit the body is rather heavily scratched) but unfortunately it is likely to be a short term proposition as much of my driving is around the London suburbs and parking in tight spaces.
My usual mechanic will probably be absolutely fine but I don't think he has a code reader for the car. Roger- I am based in the Coulsdon area which is not very far from Crawley/Gatwick. If you read this, would you mind confirming which specialist you use?
I use a lad called Keith at Ashurst Woods MOT centre, time served Volvo man, real good lad, in fact I had a issue Friday evening so will be having a chat In the morning......My usual mechanic will probably be absolutely fine but I don't think he has a code reader for the car. Well just a quick update just as I'm almost at 6 years ownership. Passed mot with no issues at all this week 215630 miles and not one advisory this year. I live in Broadstairs now and use a local garage. Broadstairs MOT centre real good lads. The volvo does around 25000 pa now days and it's as good as gold mostly motorway (m20/m26/m25/m23) and gets mid 50's mpg. It's worth nothing and will stay with me for a very long time hopefully. It tows my lads trail bike as well now days although we may well get a van for that job next year!. I'm also running a 2016 Focus ST as well now but still think the volvo will continue to be pressed into service .... the bumpers have a few marks now as do the alloys . Can anyone recommend a painter to sort the bumpers in Crawley/Dover/Thanet ?
Would you believe, I parked my Volvo at a nice "drop, stay and park" hotel over the New Year to come back to find 7 cars had been broken into there NYE..... Not impressed, the car was in their overflow car park which needless to say had no CCTV.... They said we were 1 of 5 hotels in the Gatwick area it happened......
Thankfully National Windows in Crawley came up trumps and sorted me last night, Great Service.
The "Muvva of all" letters will be going to the hotel, basically I was told in not so many words, you need to sort the repair yourself.
I was lucky just one window, looked like the Merc GL next to me had far more damage

Hi Roger. Do you calculate that mpg or take it off the dash?wiliferus said:
Seriously looking at another V70 D5...
Sold my last one (D5 163) to my now girlfriend. I needed a 7 seater (numerous kids). Initially went for an XC90 197 but the 26mpg was crippling. Swapped that out for a Nissan XTrail... hate the hateful turd of a thing. Yes it’s frugal, yes the tech inside is nice, but a small piece of me dies every time I drive it.
A rarely use the 7 seat ability, so am beginning to wonder if the occasional use boot seats of the pre 2006 V70 would be enough for me.
Having convinced myself that the answer is yes, I have started browsing for a 7 seat, manual D5.
I’ve found a lovely 2006, manual D5 in black. Unfortunately it’s not the spec I like, only half leather and no heated seats... but, it’s competitively priced, just run in at 140k and ticks all the other boxes.
What’s a man to do

Sorry, just seen this. Good to hear, still local albeit in Pound Hill/Worth now. Be good to see you
Pretty much back "home" now, The XC90 went a while back for a hateful Freelander 2 that's coming my way, not sure what I'm going to do with it to be honest.V70 on 216000 currently and will rise at a swift rate as doing almost 1000 miles per week at the moment. I have a Focus ST which is fun, I will take stock of all the cars during the year and probably move a couple on as fancy a toy of some kind in the summer, maybe the ST may become an RS?
I was Pound Hill before Maidenbower, enjoyed that better than the soulless estate......
Much to the dismay of my partner the volvo continues to do whats on the tin. It's sitting on 223600 as I type and will be way into 224000 come the weekend. I have moved back to Crawley now but continue with the daily commute to Dover until the end of June. My miles are shared between my Volvo,my focus ST and my 420 BMW but mostly it's the volvo. Last week I was going in really early leaving Crawley at 430 each day coming home lunch time and over 1200 miles I got 49.7 mpg. It amazes me. Such a good all round car. I just can't see me parting with it added to the fact that when I was getting rid of the land rover a few weeks back WBAC offered me £123 for the VOLVO!!!
Well, update time, after 7 years ownership and taking the miles from about 124k too 227k the Volvo goes on Ebay next week and will be a cheap old wagon for someone.
I have stopped driving so many miles and need to move a couple of cars on that are just sitting around now and not being used much.
I will be very sad to see the Volvo go as she has firmly got under my skin. I have no doubt she has many more miles in her left.
