Our V70 D5 (205bhp twin turbo manual) was showing a range of 1000 miles this weekend, 65 miles into a run down to Somerset from Yorkshire. It seemed a tad optimistic but after almost 520 miles when we got home it still reckoned 335 so theoretically 850 miles would be do-able. The only time I've checked the accuracy of the mpg on the dash it was within 0.3mpg so 51mpg is pretty good!
Took the XC90 up Scotland for the weekend to visit family friends
While up there, I started up this S70 T5 for the first time in 3 years, unfortunately the owner has been taken into a home. Charged the battery for a few hours and it started straight up. I was tempted to run it into the village to the MOT place but its got a warning light on the dash and despite driving it around the yard the brakes didn't clear up that well.
I'll have to go back up in the summer and see if we can get it MOT ready.

I have loved old Volvos for a long time and have driven a Honda Jazz for 7 yrs (dull I know) so at this point felt I had done my time and it was time to reacquaint myself with the car enthusiast world.
Almost went for a 1990's 740 estate in time-warp condition but argued myself out of it.
Then realised my annual milage is 4K at most and a V8 wouldn't break the bank, so tentatively went to view this beauty which is now mine! 2007 S80 V8 in shimmer gold. 65k on the clock.
Condition is excellent, I couldn't find a single ding on the bodywork and the cold start sounded amazing I had to buy it.
Bought from a nice chap called Joseph near Cardiff who treated her in 2020-2022 to lots of nice new parts (suspension, brake calipers and lines, countless bits of trim, wooden steering wheel, polarised windscreen, exhaust, and front end PPF)
Since buying last month i've had the original wheels put back on and powder coated. Currently enjoying as a weekend toy and loving it.

I have just filled up my wife's S80 (her car my bills) and it managed 53.22 MPG off it's last tank and she does not drive with an "eco" mind. So yours has done bloody well. She did 709 miles on 13 gallons, car showed it still had 120 miles left in it

Over 700 miles on 50 litres is impressive! Which engine is in the S80?Ours just did 45mpg on a camping trip down to Cornwall, fully loaded and with a 400 litre roof bag on the roof. Not bad to say the drag would be greatly increased. I was quite strict with myself in sticking to 60-65 most of the way which helps the economy massively.

Tell me about the roof bag, been looking at those over a rigid one and real world experience would be great
Ita a 400 litre Handiholdall from Halfords, was about £120 when they had a discount code on. It's huge, we stuff it full of all our softs when camping, clothes, bedding etc. Once we arrive at our destination you pack it down and put it in the boot. It's a bit of a faff to fit at first but once you get the hang of it, you can get it on in 15 minutes and off in 5.
It's waterproof, so no worries there and the wind noise is not noticeable at all as long as all the straps are on correctly and tight.
