Nearly a week and 300 miles into my V90 CC T5 lease here are some thoughts in no particular order...
After 700 miles most of this still stands. The gearbox is good on the move but I find the lag when setting off a bit annoying, particularly when trying to join a busy roundabout promptly. It seems a bit more responsive in 'Dynamic' mode, but that's a fiddle to select and deselect. I've now started moving the gear selector across into manual mode, it seems to react faster and it's become relatively natural to manually shift through the first few gears whilst getting up to speed and then flick back into auto.

Sensus went all laggy and then crashed twice in a row this morning, seems to be making a habit of it.

Wow... think the last time I was in here was towards the start of 2018 and it was <20 pages... now we're 140+!

Just had first service done, 18k hit almost bang on 12 months. Marshall Volvo in Welwyn carried it out. Relatively pain-free booking process but not great from there.

1-1.5hr job turned out to be 1.5-2hr job as quoted upon arrival. No biggie, I was preparing to wait anyway and had brought work laptop with me. Having arrived at 10:55, I was still there at 3:30pm waiting for the job to finish which was not ideal. They seemed massively understaffed in the service department.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere within the thread, but they have clearly carried out a software update as part of the service. My issues are now:

  1. Volvo On Call has broken - "On Call - Service required" or similar message appears at car start up. The app works, to a point - current vehicle status (locked/unlocked) displays accordingly, fuel, last trip etc. but beyond that I can't communicate with the car. Ie. no car unlocked notification, can't remotely lock it etc.
  2. Missing speed limit recognition - previously used to appear underneath speed read-out, now just a blank area unless I engage cruise where the icon of the car and distance from vehicle in-front appears, but no speed limits nor warnings that I am exceeding etc. Vanished entirely?
  3. Maps - notification received immediately after service that the maps are out of date, but cannot be done remotely. Have tried following the FAQ on the website with two different USB sticks and formatted with different file systems and won't recognise any combo. Surely this should've been done as part of the update? They had the car for four hours!
I had no software issues at all (apart from the odd slow-down and crash that happened 2-3 times in 12 months) before taking it in and now it feels like a lemon!

Anyway - all specific to me, no doubt, but wonder if any bright sparks here have an easy fix that doesn't involve going to a dealer? I use my car for work and its a real pain losing entire days to sitting in a showroom. Any idea if any of this can be fixed remotely?!

Thoughts welcome! Thanks.

This is my first Volvo but every time I took my previous VW for a service or whatever they gave me a loan car, why wait all day for them to fix it?
You are paying for a lease car after all .......

Very pleased with the economy of mine so far (S90 T4 R Design). About 80% motorway miles/long journey, often stick it in eco mode.

Unfortunately I've been notified that Santander are not offering any extension to the leases and only allow up to 28 days max extension at a cost of £12.42 per day Inc vat.
No option to extend further and no option to purchase.
Looks like I'll need to start looking now for when mine goes back in October.

This is what they told me when I was looking to extend my 5008. I really don't get where the money is for Santander on 18 month deals, you'd think they'd snap peoples hand off to extend to lesson their exposure.

And I'm gutted in some ways cause I think this could seriously have been a car we kept for 2-3 years, although I'm sure I'll be quite happy to swerve those expensive 2nd and 3rd service costs.

I suspect Santander have an agreement with Volvo to provide a good source of nearly new used stock.

I know Volvo use Santander as their finance provider so maybe it's mutual back scratching?

Santander surely can't make money on supplying a brand new V90 even at cost though? Volvo will buy back at trade prices at auction as well so even less avenue to regain losses.

But then on the flipside, I suppose if Santander then get all Volvo's PCP business on new and those used cars, it probably does work out worthwhile taking a hit on limited lease cars.

Santander will be getting a near 2yr old V90 CC back with roughly 15k miles on it. All us who got the T5 CC deal would of paid less than £5k in lease payments. Lord knows what they'd be worth 2nd hand. Certainly not 5 grand less than new. More like 20.

I imagine the invoice price to Santander is a substantial amount less than RRP.

Wait, what. Are you saying the amortised cost of the T5 CC was 208pcm?

I think he means £272 x 18 months = £4900

I have seen delivery mileage cars at just over £30k so nowhere near list price.

More like £35k, but it's a fair point.

Apologies, yes i meant by the time the car goes back it'll be near 2 year old and worth a big chunk less.

They need to negotiate harder

Without trying I was being offered 9-10k off V90's last autumn for PCP

It was difficult enough getting a date with the franchise dealer that worked for both of us, let alone throwing the availability of a courtesy car into the mix! Its almost a 60 mile round trip to the dealer, so I could work from the waiting area with free supply of biscuits and tea, so could've been worse.

For those interested, it is Marshall Volvo in Welwyn. They seem massively understaffed in the service dept, guy on desk mentioned to another customer who was complaining that a colleague left on Friday. Would avoid for the interim.

Spoke to Santander (Volvo) FS today and they said to call back on Friday and they will escalate to a complaint if they haven't given me a time frame for resolution.

In the eyes of my insurer I have a tracker via OnCall; having spoken to OnCall team today they confirmed the last known location of the car was at the dealership as I arrived for the service, so definitely something they did that has nuked it!
