The Volvo S90/V90 lease thread
Discussion
Volvo virgin here and just in the process of FTK on an S90 T4 Momentum Plus, 2 years 10k. I've heard service costs are fairly high so I'm enquiring re maintenance package. Anybody got any idea what the servicing costs would be?
Thanks in advance
Edit: looking back through the thread it seems to vary, will get in touch with my local dealership and get a quote...

V90 CC T5 just broke down. April 2019 with 5k on the clock.
Engine management came on just as I left my driveway then engine switched off. Rolled over to the side of road, walked back to the house disappointed, Volvo assist are on there way, ETA 1hr.
Anyone else had this problem?
No, I've never been to your house. Engine management came on just as I left my driveway then engine switched off. Rolled over to the side of road, walked back to the house disappointed, Volvo assist are on there way, ETA 1hr.

Have you not used it for a while over the festive period?
Most likely an electrical gremlin, keep us updated.
Done London to York and back this week. V90CC Averaged 33mpg. Around town low 20’s. Similar to a Supercharged V8 Jag S-type R 400bhp I owned a few years ago. Still very happy with the family wagon at this price - circa £270pm. Would sign up for another tomorrow if I could. No need for reversing camera! Parking sensors make manoeuvring easy! I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about.

It’s a pity Volvo don’t offer any engine options with more displacement.
This. Crying out for a BMW 3.0 straight 6.

Get used to it... All car manufacturers are being forced to downsize by emissions regulations, and eventually we'll be all electric. On the plus side, electric torque will make your old straight sixes and V8s feel like they were a rusty hamster wheel under the bonnet.
Yep, very true. I’m not anti-EV, I’m looking forward to seeing how Polestar develops but the T4 engine in the S/V90 is crap.

Coming from a 335d to the T4 most things would have come up short but I've acclimatised to barge life and its more than adequate. Which sounds like faint praise I admit I’m not anti-EV, I’m looking forward to seeing how Polestar develops but the T4 engine in the S/V90 is crap.
My main gripe was poor range however it loosened up after approx 4000 miles and returns 40mpg at decent motorway speeds where its a lovely place to be. Have done our usual festive road trips and get out much fresher than the F31 although I do sometimes miss it on slip roads and borderline overtaking spots. That's borderline for most other cars by the way!
And I'm pretty sure the 330i and 530i are now 4 pots
Cheers
Yeah, the T4 is what I would describe as "adequate" - it gives enough power if you really stamp on the accelerator, but most of the time it would prefer to just shuffle along in its slippers. It also likes a drink.
With hindsight, I'd still have picked the T4 to lease as it's the most cost effective overall. Not an inspiring engine though, and hardly the combustion "last hurrah" I expected before I switch to electric next year.

It's an engine to be viewed in the context of being a white good and nothing more.
I tend to drive like a grandad in the Volvo so typically see high 30's to the gallon across a tank. When you've been used to 20-30mpg for years before it's not bad.
57mph is the ideal motorway speed as this is when it just goes into 8th in eco mode. Had a 2 hour drive to the other side of Glasgow back in the summer and it was showing as high 40's to the gallon when I arrived.

If you want to go a bit slower it allows you to go in to 8th at 43mph in manual mode. I tend to drive like a grandad in the Volvo so typically see high 30's to the gallon across a tank. When you've been used to 20-30mpg for years before it's not bad.

If you’re looking for ultimate economy eco mode and manual gear changes are the way to go.
As I’ve not got paddleshifters, the oh looks at me strangely as I shunt the gearstick about in an auto and is utterly unimpressed that I can get 20% better economy than eco/auto mode

Regarding the 57mph, it's as slow as I'd want to go on a motorway. Fast enough that you're not having trucks struggle to pass you and slow enough that you're not constantly coming across slower traffic and having to faff about with pilot assist/adaptive cruise.
Agreed. And adaptive cruise is a pain in the arse on motorways and won’t help consumption ( unless you’re drafting wagons I suppose )numtumfutunch said:

Agreed, it’s a great barge and I love it. But the engine doesn’t suit it. 3.0 litre BMs are now the *40i variants. It’s a fantastic engine and more economical than the T4.

I leased it expecting exactly what I’m getting, so I’m not complaining, but it seems odd that a series of supposedly environmentally driven decisions have led us here.

Get this, Thrifty delivered me a hire car...a XC60 R design T5. Lovely!
Do I need to inform Santander about any of this?

It had a good run Boxing Day, the following day all seemed well, 20 seconds into driving the engine just switches off. It’s finally been recovered, couldn’t release the brake so needed sliding plates to pull it on the recovery vehicle. They took it to Volvo in Cardiff.

If you feel like this intermittent fault might keep recurring then just take notes of dates and times, things said etc.
also screenshots of the app shoowing where it went wrong (eg finishing point of one journey, layby near your house : start of next journey, dealer.)
