The quite bad damage caused to my Volvo in a car park hit and run was not picked up by the inspector. Both front alloys damaged (one by hit and run) were also not picked up. What he did write down was a scratch on the rear bumper where our over enthusiastic dog tried to jump up before we were ready. It had not broken the paint and was an inch long and barely visable but charged at £65. The collection was May so I have waited till now but as it’s been sold I paid the extra £65 and said nowt. Dodged a bill there. D Debit cancelled case closed.

Hi All,

I am just wondering if you could share how much you paid for your second (Major) service on your V/S90's

I've got the D4 and my local is charging me £400 which seems extortionate to me. Just wondering if its worth haggling it down when i pick it up?

Tbh I reckon people including myself are out of touch with what dealer networks are charging these days. Recent random example, annual service on a two year old Citroen hatchback, which has only done 1200 miles in the last year. £359. No negotiation. Don't even get me started on JLR.

Volvo get a bad press in here for extortionate charges, they're all milking it.

Maybe there's a website where people log this sort of info. Maybe an idea to start a thread? Folks think it's worthwhile or would we get into trouble with the mods on name and shame. I'll ask in website feedback.

I'm facing the same dilemma with my T5 CC V90. I'm hearing stories of £500 being quoted (but need to check!). My broker suggested it didn't need to be a Volvo dealer so long as they use the right parts and update the service records - even the lease company don't use them if they're paying!

But Plan A is to hand it back early before the service is due. Does anyone know when the service light comes on - is it when the service is due or a number of days in advance? I'm hoping someone knows rather than me crossing my fingers each morning I start it!! hehe

As my next car is waiting to be delivered, it seems worth investigating!

Thanks! I'd not seen that.

So I have done and I was clearly doing them a dis-service - £550 for the two year 36k service!!!

I wonder how long I have before the light comes on??

I take it you've got more miles than the 14k I had on mine then!

I've heard that there is a 'reduced' service for lower mileage cars.

I believe the light comes on 30 days before, but seeing as I don't have the car anymore, I can't tell you for certain.

Yep, just shy of 29k at present - was scheduled for 36k but Covid....

I spoke too soon - a light has appeared saying I need to book regular service and the detail says its due in 29 days. I need to check with my broker for his advice!

Mind you, if I can use my local non-Volvo garage, it may be worth having it serviced and running it full term - I still have many extra miles in hand!!

Thanks for your help again.

So i questioned the high price and they came back and said "If you look here sir we're discounting it already, it should be £500!!!"

£500!!!! i'm not buying a bloody range rover or something with a big engine that requires a lot of oil.

Needless to say i paid it and they officially had my pants down!

My V90 was via Santander. Second service was about £500. I took it to local indie HiQ. It would have been £190 but because I wanted genuine Volvo parts I think it was £227. They stamped service record etc and I put a reciept copy in the book. No issues at hand back.

I suppose I missed out on any software updates but I didn’t miss giving them the extra £300.

Another thing they did for the £227 was reverse the tyres so I dodged that bullet as well and didn’t buy a tyre in 30 months and 17000 miles.

Thanks Mike,

This is what I'm tending towards, especially as I have excess miles to spare on the Volvo and some long journeys for holidays in the next couple of weeks. driving

I'll check with my broker and then phone my local garage to see if they can service it and update the service history (there's no book!). I too can live without the software update, especially as I won't have the car after the end of the month!!

Thanks again

Rob

I’ve been offered 3 months at 255, 6 months at 265 or 12 months at 275. This is with Lex Autolease rather than Santander

That’s on 6k a year deal for a T4 momentum plus which I was originally paying 208 for on a 9+23 (280 amortised)

Will need the 2nd expensive service but looking at current prices, extending seems the best option, surprisingly competitive given they could probably sell it right now for a lot more than they expected!
I have the same car from Lex Autolease 5k a year for 215 gbp 3+23. Deal ends in November when I asked for the extension I was quoted 260 I think for another 12 month, however in the contract, it says informal extension cost 232 monthly and after speaking to Lex Autolease it looks I can extend informally for a year or even two years, with all the flexibility, it is a monthly notice before I am ready to return.

my plan is to pay for the 2nd year service and to keep the car on informal extension until I find another decent deal, perhaps a year or more given the current climate

The Volvo V90 CC T5 went back on Monday this week inspected and collected by Manheim.

The car was a big success with the family and we would have happily extended the lease but, alas, this was not an option. Then, just 5 days before it was due to be returned, I hit a deer late at night. To say it was bad timing is an understatement, 5 days before it was due to be returned, new car inbound... enough said! And before you ask about the deer - it just ran off, damn thing!

So - I managed to limp it home as it was just driveable, the impact was on the front nearside corner - I was travelling on a country road (Grouse Road near Horsham) and only going 35 mph but the deer gave me no chance to stop - it ran out when I was almost alongside it. Damage was significant - front bumper, bonnet, light cluster, nearside wing, nearside door all damaged to different extents.

So - car went through accident repair via insurance and was told it would be initially 2 weeks. 5 Weeks later with a myriad of excuses it was ready. The repaired area was perfect although they managed to put a scratch just below the drivers door handle which they kindly polished out while I waited.

Driving away the dash started to light up like a Christmas tree - Start/Stop service and the dreaded Regular Maintenance popped up then for good measure the TPMS. Start/Stop and TPMS easily cured (Start/Stop was due to the car not being driven for a month and the battery needed charging so just an extended drive sorted that). I called the local Volvo garage and luckily the service wasn't due until the 24th August so no issues there.

The repair centre had given it a partial clean but with the white leather there were a few marks from kids and mountain bikes over the 2 ish years. I used some general purpose cleaner which sorted that out and also some Valet Pro Dragons Breath which sorted out the dirty alloys. A quick vacuum and it was ready for Manheim.

The guys turned up and then 20 mins later all done - picked up one scratch on the rear bumper by the boot (probably me getting my MTB out) and said it might be £60 but as the rest was immaculate they might wave it. And off they went...

Would highly recommend the V90, especially the CC T5 even if it is a bit thirsty.

There must be something about deer and V90 CCs. I got off lightly...

Repaired using a soldering iron to do some plastic welding, and some PU adhesive!

In case it's of interest to anyone using Santander123 to lease a Volvo, having previously been told I could only request a 28 day extension, they're now offering 6mth informal extensions on same terms inc pro-rata mileage.

Handy as my new lease delivery has just slipped from Sept > December...

That's good news for the extensions in the current climate. However I've got a looming tyre bill if I extend, so today I ordered the next car. A Corolla Estate.
There's really no deals knocking about at the minute.

My S60 was picked up yesterday, I had one of the mega deals on them from Santander back in December 2019. Car was rarely used due to lockdown (6000 miles in 21 months) and so was in immaculate condition. There were a couple of scuffed wheels but I wasn't charged for them.

On the whole loved the car, aside from the poor fuel economy and the sluggish gearbox. Looked great, first class interior, very comfortable and would definitely go Volvo again once I need a car for commuting again.

I asked last week and they said no, as my vehicle has been "pre-sold" - max 28 days.
So today I stuck a reservation fee on a Leon Xcellence with the 1.4 eTSI engine in which has a 40 mile e only range.

The reason behind this is the work fuel reimbursement scheme has become more flexible. Previously I had to claim AFR on a car allowance car, meaning it was great whe I had a 3.0L S4, being able to claim 20 p per mile or whatever it was, but not great when you have to try to run a 2 tonne Volvo and don't get much more mpg, but only get 13p per mile, when it's costing 18p.

Now we have a fuel card option, where you pay the private mileage BACK at the AFR, meaning I pay less than it costs back. And the 1.4 engine is belkow the lower threshold as well, so will be paying back at even less!

And it's got a heated steering wheel, which I'm looking forward to experience when it lands in December!
