R-design spec can be sparse. Just check the specs.

But thanks for an interesting review!

I think you need to check again. On the V90 at least, it's very generous.

Thanks for that review soup dragon. I'm also going into a V90 from an Alltrack, am very much looking forward to it.

Yes, I've checked the specs. You get quite a lot of extras compared to momentum and momentum is well specced anyway so I'm not sure how you can describe it as sparse?

Ok maybe it's different for the V90 but historically, the r-design was a pretty basic trim level unless the options are added generously.

Radar cruise
Heated seats
Electric tailgate
Active cockpit display
Pilot assist
Leather/alcantara
LED headlights with active high beam
Folding mirrors
330W stereo (80w on Jaguar XF, for example, unless you pay 700 to upgrade)

amongst other bits n bobs.

The only downside for me is I'd perhaps preferred the blonde interior, but I wanted the active display (not available on Momentum) and was too tight to pay the uplift to Inscription hehe

Having visited my local dealer and been disappointed with their attitude and prices (no change from the last time I bought form them) I ordered a V90 via Stoneacre.

Really looking forward to having it delivered. I've not had a test drive but I'm sure it'll be just fine.

Anyone driven an r-design that can comment on the ride quality? Slightly concerned around it being too firm....

There's little to no discernible difference

Anyone contemplating buying a current V90 really should read the current 4 x 4 estates test in this month's CAR and give it a second thought. Principally their observations of the 'thrashy, peaky and pedestrian engine' (D5 Powerpulse) and to a lesser extent in the ride quality and handling which may, in fairness, be better in the FWD alternatives.

While I think its important to read reviews, watch youtube video's etc (I do that a lot) it's also good to get a test drive of your own. I had it for a 2 day test drive and loved it - any negatives I had read in online reviews were quickly put at ease once I got behind the wheel. It drove really well. The S90 is made in China and the V90 in Sweden as I understand - not sure if that makes a difference though...

I'd have loved a test drive, in fact I went to my local dealer hoping to get one. I also went there hoping they may be able to provide a competitive quote.

Unfortunately they had no desire to even try to be competitive and the salesman made it perfectly clear that he considered a test drive to be a perk of buying from him so not available other wise...

Saying that the car I drive at the moment has BMW MSport suspension so I'm hoping the V90 R Design is no worse.

I've always wondered how you manage to get a prolonged test drive such as 1 or 2 days?
The most I've managed is 40 mins with the salesperson yapping away in the passenger seat. Is there a secret handshake I need to know about?

It helps if you're a regular customer of theirs over a few years where they get to know you well.

There may be other tactics too...

Or just ask them.

Had a test drive today of a S90 D5 R Design complete with 21 inch wheels. Also I usually drive a 2015 Insignia Elite diesel so standards are suitably low...

Overall I found the S90 to be a very compelling package. Very comfortable, quick enough for motorway driving and the interior is the best I've sat in since I had my XF years ago. The ride quality was ok but I felt it could be improved although the alloys probably didn't help and the engine was a little noisy I thought. Car I tried had the Bowers and Wilkins stereo fitted which was brilliant but so it should be for 3k!

Had my heart set on an R Design but I'd like front sensors and there's nothing left in the budget plus I'm not allowed options. So I may try for the Inscription instead as it's a good looking car regardless.

Looking forward to getting my order placed!

S90 D4 R design with winter pack and metallic £199, with £2k down - tempted even though I don't need one (now if it was a v90....)

Do you have a contact for that £199 offer? I've got a Inscription with extras lined up at £317 on 9+23, but the R-Design is just insanely cheap right now, making that look a poor deal now frown

18 months, closer inspection suggests might be 8k miles a year - see above for contact

Im getting cold feet on account of the punitive fixed yearly servicing this car needs

£650-750 for two mandatory services is hard to ignore especially as VAG, BMW and others have a variable period which may even exempt them from a first oil change if you're lucky/creative

18 months is a decent idea but I was wondering if anyone has blagged a 23 month contract or been given an assurance, pref in writing, that you can duck the second spendy service if you hand it back a week early?

Cheers
