The new gen of Volvos are bloody lovely!
I agree. I've done a couple of longer trips in my colleague's new S90 now, and I have to say it really is a lovely thing. Material and assembly quality is as good as anything coming out of Germany, there's some great tech (e.g Pilot Assist) that's been well implemented, and all the traditional Volvo attributes of comfort, attention to detail, and the reassuring feeling of solidity are there in spades.
He got it as a stopgap on a cheap 2 year lease deal, but likes it so much, he's going to buy one when it goes back, albeit in a different spec.
Re: the 4 cylinder chat. I've a 6 cylinder BMW X6 40D with over 300 bhp - twin turbo, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. My V90 T4 petrol 190bhp does that in 7.5 seconds so yes, a bit slower with a 4 cylinder but still not 'too' bad. You can spec them at T6 300BHP or even T8 twin engine at 400 bhp but that's a fair bit more coin to get into one of those.
I know my 4 cyl petrol still sounds ok - its certainly a more pleasant sound than the BMW 6 cyl, which is one of the better engines BMW has produced by all accounts. The Volvo petrol is nice and quiet when cruising and under load, while its a bit muted, it still sounds better than the BMW engine.
All bets are off of course when compared to a 6 cyl petrol - no denying that.
For those of us buying these Volvo on PH, a large majority are buying on attractive lease deals/PCP deals and even if Volvo did have a 6 cyl petrol, not many of us would be buying anyway due to the large price increase. You only need to look at equivalent lease deals on Audi/BMW/Merc etc for 6 cly deals - not many good deals around and if you do want one - its at least another 50% in terms of monthly cost. So the lack of a 6 cyl is a moot point for a large portion of potential buyers. I do appreciate though that for some, the lack of a 6 cyl option means they won't ever be going to buy these new Volvo's and I do understand the love that people have for those bigger engines.
Yes I miss being able to throw it into a few corners and have a bit of fun with it and yes the 4 cylinder can be a little rattlely on occasion but I'm so impressed with it.
I love how relaxing it is to drive, it's comfortable despite being on 21" wheels and it just eats miles up whilst giving me a massage.
It does make me want another sports car just to have some fun in though! Also its not great in tight car parks!

Just specced one on the website. 46k for a fully loaded one in Savile Grey.
The only thing I don't like about the current Volvo's is having to change the temperature via the touchscreen, it's a bit of a faff. Would prefer proper dials for temp control.
It's quite easy when you get used to it + voice control 'im hot or I'm cold' works well and adjusts the temp by 1 degree either wayThe only thing I don't like about the current Volvo's is having to change the temperature via the touchscreen, it's a bit of a faff. Try changing something on an E60 5 series!

A couple of months ago I changed from a 2014 XF S Sportbrake so circa 275bhp v6 to an XC90 D5

Officially jealous now. Massage seats sound awesome. I watched a review on youtube and the car was fitted with the massage seats - they review guys were totally loving them Yes I miss being able to throw it into a few corners and have a bit of fun with it and yes the 4 cylinder can be a little rattlely on occasion but I'm so impressed with it.

Out of interest,. What sort of money are we talking to lease something like this for a couple of years?
The V90 was coming in around the £7k ish mark over 2 years but currently, the V60 isn't being discounted so expect to pay closer to £10k over 2 years at the minute. I'm sure these V60's will be promoted on lease at some point though - just probably not this early into their release date.soupdragon1 said:

Thanks. I just find these realy appealing. I'm a JLR fanboy but grew up with Volvos. These satisfy my good looking modern car - and nostalgia wants.numtumfutunch said:
Local dealer getting a demo first week of July, next nearest dealer middle of July
Anyone had a proper look at one yet?
I didn’t get to drive it at the ocean race but I did sit in it for a good 25 minsAnyone had a proper look at one yet?
The touch screen is very easy to use, the fastest I’ve used and miles ahead of a jag XE. I don’t really like touch screens but this one was nice. Although I agree with above comments about temperature etc. I would prefer a button.
The dials where clear and crisp, again virtual allowing customisation,
The car I was in had a option B&W radio which was amazing, the best in car radio I’ve ever heard
The seats where so comftable and the massage is really strong and adjustable, the seats has plenty of adjustment in them
All the materials felt very screwed together, almost identical to the 90 Range, apart from the sun visors which where plastic on the v60 and leather on the v90
The boot was big, flat and the seats in the back folded flat,
My favourite thing though, along with the pano sunroof was the ability to have a car with a light coloured interior, the blond leather is stunning close up, and was heated and cooled

Usual in depth review here. I think I’d give that seat fabric a miss, but a lovely car.

If they become available on cheap lease deals I may well dip my toe in. The first modern car in ages thats made me consider giving up my faithful old V70 D5.

What sort of delivery times have been quoted to anyone ordering? I’m trying to time my order for an Inscription D4 Auto with some 3 or 4 modest options.
12-14 weeks if the experience of these guys is anything to go by..https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I have recently ordered a V60 Momentum Pro to keep under the £40,000 limit before paying the exorbitant VED. Added quite a few bits and came to just over £39,000.
I am told it will be about November when I will get it. Sad to leave Honda as mine have been bombproof. However, I have a caravan and Honda will not be producing the CR-V with a diesel motor.

Apart from economy there is no reason for needing a diesel to tow...although you'd still want a decent petrol engine not a little 1.5T in a big car and reality is that because most manufacturers went heavily diesel *and* downsized there aren't the decent "towing" petrols. My car won "Tow car of the year" and it's very definitely not a diesel! http://www.dieselcar.com/features/tow-car-of-the-y...
