I'm considering the above and have never owned a Volvo before. I appreciate the D5 engine give more bhp but is the D4 really that bad??

Any advice on trim level would also be appreciated

Cheers

I've a 2017 V90 D4 R-Design. There's nothing wrong with it. Dragged the 1.5 tonne caravan down to the French Jura region last summer without issue. Well the AC did become overwhelmed on the return journey. It was 40oC and trying to hold 60mph up the bigger inclines was too much for the under bonnet heat management. I think any similar car would have struggled.

On a careful motorway run with cruise on at about 70 I can see about 50mpg. It drops off to mid 40s if you go faster. I've done 60mpg when being ultra careful on the motorway. Just to see.

Only thing I would say is that tyre noise is significant on the R-Design. No issue on motorways, but can be annoying on the A roads with rougher surfaces/large sized tarmac stones.

As with previous Volvos they are just great places to munch the miles. Very big in the back for passengers.

I have a V90 D5 R-design. The reason i went with it over the D4 was because it comes with 4WD
