Noticed just the other day that my 850's steering has started to creak, squeak, and groan like a dodgy door hinge at slow speeds when parking, etc...

I noticed this morning once I got to work, the noises had gone away, so perhaps once the car's warmed up, it's alright. However, I'm a bit skeptical with that diagnosis, as it hadn't happed in the previous cold snaps we've had and perhaps it's hiding an underlying issue.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced these front end poltergeists before I get my local volvo specialists involved.

Cheers

Sounds like it could be air bubbles in the power steering fluid. Our van does it.

Does it only do it when you are actually turning, particularly near full lock?

When it does happen, it's only when turning the wheels (left or right), and it doesn't matter if it's to full lock or not.

I saw a thread yesterday on the VOC forums describing my exact problem (but in a C70), and it was down to the steering linkage needing greasing. Well, for that particular car anyway.

However, when I left work yesterday, there was no squeak, and this morning, there was no squeak.

Starting to think my car's possessed

It is a common problem on C70's which are based on 850's but the suspension is different and its not a common problem on 850's, might be a good idea to get it checked out.
