Visually a strong design, if it has the usually Volvo build quality and the handling of the new S40 (new Focus platform) plus a decent range of engines it should be a winner! Probabaly won't be though because of the stigma about driving Volvos Rich...

Stigma about driving Volvo's whats that! Be surprised how many people are converted when they actually have a drive of one.

Funny that - my 21 year old son was pleased as chuff when he got a new S40 as his "company car" a couple of weeks ago! He said his mates thought he had come-up on the lottery! Rich...

Now if that was a 2 seater with a huge boot it would suit me perfectly, no kids but loads of golf clubs

Edited to add:

Just looked at the other pictures, you would be hard pressed to squeeze a rabbit through that boot opening, back to the Audi A4/3 Series Touring plan.

tuffer the glass opening is the full width of the car so why would loading be a problem?

Be better off buying a skoda than the audi, save about £5k in cash aswell!

http://autoshow.msn.com/as/gallery.as 2nd row, far left picture....That is not the full width of the car and certainly not sufficient to fit 2 sets of golf clubs plus 2 trolleys and a couple of weekend bags.

As for buying a Skoda instead of an Audi, I take that as a joke. Skoda have come a long way but they are not in the same league as Audi, yes I know all about parts sharing, I have had numerous Audi's, VW's and Seats and the quality varies between the brands (the Seat fell apart after 9 months). If I was in the market for a Skoda I would hope to save a lot more than £5k and I don't believe they do a 3.0D Quatro version of the Octavia just yet.

Never a fan of the old 480 even when it was new but this new C30 looks "right". If its based on the Focus platform it should go well too.

Indeed, in fact it's fair to say the "new" Focus is based on the S40/V50 as that came first!

The chassis under the Volvo is very much different to that of the Focus, admittedly its the same design which is a good thing as its an excellent chassis but its much stiffer and has numerous parts beefed up for crash safety, plus its a slightly larger car aswell.

All the mags are saying the new C70 'based on the focus chassis' the only thing it shares with the S40 is the engine subframe which isnt the same as in the focus, the chassis is based on the same design but is much bigger and massively stiffened and doesnt share any bits with the S40 underneath therefore doesnt actually share anything with the focus.
