Apologies if this has been asked before, didn't come up on a search.

My 2000 (facelift) V70 T5 has started displaying this code ("Alarm Service Required"). We also woke up the other night to the hazards flashing but no audible alarm, though that seems to have been a one-off.

Some googling suggests that the siren module can go bad and cause this code, but that a replacement needs to be re-coded by Volvo and the bill is going to be several hundred notes...

Is there a budget/DIY alternative? Or can it just be left for the moment? I don't want the car suddenly immobilising, or unlocking itself, or any other unhelpful fault, but as far as I can tell (again from googling) if the siren module fails other electronic components in the car can be affected but the only example that's given is the sunroof controls failing to operate.

Any knowledgeable input gratefully received.
