850 TD

I'm considering an 850 2.5TD as a commuter car for the girlfriend and as an occasional tow car for myself.
1/ What do I need to look out for when buying one of these?
2/ What kind of MPG can I expect when not towing?

Been running one for a yr and a half now - gets 45mpg on the cruise and around 42-44 when commuting.

Fantastic car and mine has done 140k now, I only bought it as a stop gap but havent found anything to replace it yet as it just does its job without complaint.

The figures above are on a manual BTW...

Things to look for?

Worn ball joints front
Worn front top mount bushes - look at top of suspension columns under the bonnet and see if the struts are sitting ok, but its hard to tell without driving for a bit (creaking noises for instance).
Handbrake normally needs adjusting

High mileage car will need cambelt/water pump doing and watch for the calipers siezing up - I just replaced my front two with recon items and all is well.

Dont worry if it smokes alot either, they all do that - just make sure its black smoke rather than something a bit more serious.

Its got plenty enough grunt as well........

These have the 5 pot Audi engine, best of all the big Audi tdi's in there just the wrong way round compared to zee German system.
