Help!

Went to start the car after work and there seems to be a problem! Its a 1999 S40 2.0 manual.

Car unlocks like normal, on turning the key the dash lights come on but when turned to the start position all the lights go out and nothing happens.

No unusual dash lights come on and I tried hooking up a jump pack in case the battery was fooked.

A quick bit of googling points towards a starter relay, any obvious symptoms of this?

My instinct was an immobiliser fault, any way of testing this? I only had one key with me so i'll try the spare tomorrow.

Any advice would be thankfully recieved. Cheers.

sounds like imobiliser fault, traced this fault on many classic shape s40s to a live feed missing at imobiliser control module, there has been many instances were the wiring loom has coroded under the radiator, sometimes you also find interior lights etc also dont work, really its a main dealer option to be sure,to fault trace and diagnose.
