Morning,

Sadly my dad died at the end of last year and as part of his estate my brother and I inherited his car which I now have to sell. It's a 2002 2.4 V70 estate (does v mean estate and s saloon?) in silver with a black leather interior. I think it's got about 90k miles on it and seems to drive very nicely.

Essentially I have to prepare this car for sale by cleaning it and making sure it's in good order. Is there anything on these cars that I should check while I'm sorting it out... the sort of thing that would put a buyer off. For example do they need anything weird like a cambelt more frequently than other cars?

Also, can anyone give me a rough idea of what I should be asking for it? My brother wants the most he can possibly squeeze from the sale and I want it off the drive as quickly as possible without giving it away (I don't want to see it everyday as a reminder basically).

Thanks very much,

Mark

PS. Must admit I'm quite tempted to keep it as it's a lot nicer to drive than the wife's mondeo but the situation is complicated to a degree by the circumstances.

Sorry about your father.

Cambelt needs changing every 80k, at least on first gen v70, yours is second gen, but I believe the engine is the same. Check that all electicery works, service light stays off, front tyres not too worn, that should be all really.

As for pricing, has it got any extras apart from full leather, dolby surround stereo, sunroof, manual/auto? Is it in good condition, any damage in or outside?

I'd hazard a guesstimate around 2500-3000.

Thanks for that. I'll have a good look round when I pick it up. It seemed to have an extraordinary number of controls for the stereo and for the climate control but couldn't tell you what spec it was. The only damage is a small scratch on the bumper which I'll get sorted.

Cheers,

Mark

I'm not sure if this applies to your car. But Volvo did a 140 bhp and 170 bhp version of your car. So if you're selling it, you might want to check which one it is.

80k? first gens are 60k and I would recomend every 50k as I have removed them at this mileage and they are already starting to deteriorate.

On the plus side, they are one of the easiest cars to change cambelts on

This is full service for 850 and V70, 1992-2000.
I read this as cambelt change every 50K on pre '94 models and 80K after '94, I don't have my V70 anymore, but I'm quite sure it stated 80K?

It'll say on the logbook if its a 140 or 170 brake, not much goes wrong, mine is nigh on 200k now with few issues (if any) Common faults are dicky throttle bodies & idle valves giving poor idling.

If its tip top condition in & out then £2-3k tops, important valuable features are cruise control & plood dash trims, & wood trimmed steering wheels on the top spec ones. Has it got the black plood (plastic wood)? if so thats the top spec one. Lesser spec'd one are worth £1.5-2k mileage dependant of course.
