How do I disable this?

Yes I know 'put belt on' is the best answer and I do usually wear a belt

Where I park we have a post under the car, so I get in, switch on bing bing bing, reverse out, put post up, if I'm going to the post box 600 yds away bing bing bing bing, deliver post, then put on belt and drive home in silence.

AFAIK it can't be disabled.
Pull a fuse, cut a wire, but it will probably kill other applications as well.

But what if it's snowing, if 2" can bring London to a standstill I need to protect the loafers (I don't wear loafers by the way just to get that straight)

It can't be disabled apparently. It doesn't get annoying after you work out to put your belt on.

Go to a breakers yard, cut an old seatbelt up to get the male pluggy bit, pay for item, insert pluggy bit into buckle in the car. Drive in silence, safe in the knowledge that if you have an accident, it may hurt.

Or just buckle up on every journey wink

I wear my belt mostly, it's just the odd occasion when I don't.

Could have sworn I explained that silly

Try this, it works on the older models at least.

On the main light switch cluster, there is a small switch that looks like a screw, use a small screwdriver to turn that to the left, or was it to the right, now you should be able to switch off the headlights by turning the main switch to zero.

As said, this is for the older Volvo's, not sure if it works on the s60 models.

From memory I think I can switch to sidelights on, but tend to just leave them on, but have to remember to switch them if I want to use main beam.

Any dealer can turn the day running lights off, If i remember correctly, its just a software upgrade on the S60/V70/S80, but the S/V40 classics require a new light switch assembly.

its not on S60, think s70 was the last like that.

On the S40/V40 (Mitsu one) if you hold the "flash headlight" stalk back as you turn the lights off this turns off the DRL's.

S60 needs to visit a dealer to switch off the DRLs. 05 model years onwards can only have the DRLs reduced to sidelights, rather than switch them off completely. Early (00-01 model year?) S60/V70/S80s ping forever when the seatbelt is not clipped in, but the later ones ping for a period of time then stop, only activating again once you go over a certain speed. Maybe the older ones can have the software changed accordingly.
You could always plug the passenger seatbelt in the drivers clip...

Google "belt minder"

The Fords use this procedure... may be transferable to PAG products..?

Turning Off Seatbelt Reminder

Handbrake on
Gear in neutral
Ignition off
All doors are closed
All seatbelts unbuckled
Headlamps off

Deactivating/Activating

  • Turn the ignition switch to position II. (Do not start the engine).
  • Wait until the safety belt warning indicator turns off.
Note: The next 3 steps must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure must be repeated.

  • Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled.
  • Turn the headlamps ON then OFF.
  • Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times ending with the safety belt unbuckled. After this step the safety belt warning indicator will be illuminated for three seconds.
  • Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning indicator turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
The following sequence will confirm the belt minder is enabled:
  • The safety belt warning indicator flashes four times per second for three seconds.
  • Three seconds with the safety belt warning indicator off.
  • The safety belt warning indicator flashes four times per second for three seconds again.
  • After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete

Just to find your car in a car park! Supposedly the original intention for the lights in the mirrors was South African market specific, so that you could see if anyone was hiding under the car waiting to car jack you! In Europe they're referred to as puddle lights... Volvo have had them as an option for about 10 years, but more recently the German manufacturers have started adding them to high end models. The bulb is in the mirror.

i think they are a nifty idea and thought they were standard, not too sure if they would work in SA though. When i go there i like to be in a crappiest car as possible
