Hi, new to the forums smile

Last year I bought a cheap estate for general load lugging (moved my brother in, general dump/garden waste lugging, DIY stuff, etc) and it would also be handy for when we take the dog out.

So I bought a Mitsi Sigma 3.0 V6 estate on 175k, it's been a great car, very comfy, quite torquey, massive boot space, etc - can't go wrong. However, it's no looker, nearly very panel has a dent/scratch/scuff, it has a habit of locking itself, getting a bit rusty underneath (had to do some welding for MOT), pretty thirsty, and is starting to develop a few kncoks from suspension.

So, I'm thinking of getting rid, and replacing it with something of similar size and build quality, but just a fair bit tidier & more presentable.

Ideally for less than £1k.

Had looked into Legacy GT's, I've always wanted one, but as has been suggested to me, I wonder if a cheap GT could just end up being a pain, piston slap, big/little end problems, possible thief magnet.

So, I've also always fancied a V70, but it would have to be a T5, trouble is, unless you get say a '97/'98 one, they tend to be out of my price range. So I looked at the 850 T5, quite like them, not so keen on the overall look as a V70, but can see that there's not really much between them. And in the right colour, with the right wheels I think they actually look quite nice smile

So, what I'm asking, is there much difference between an 850 T5 and the early V70 T5? is it worth paying the extra for the V70, or taking advantage of the very cheap 850? Were there any major changes other than the softening face lift?

What should I look for on a T5 in general, what can cause problems/expense? I'm a confident DIY mechanic so have no bother working on my own cars, but like to know if tehre's anything in particular to look out for.

Also, with the 850 T5, I gather there are a few different trim levels, which also differ from year to year, any in particular to go for? I'd prefer leather, and do like to have the odd bit of electrickery like climate, cruise, leccy seats would be nice.

Hope someone can help smile

The interior is more refined and modern looking in the v70, other than that not much difference at all, front/tail lights, colour coded bumpers/lists.
