I wonder if anyone can help.
Last night I tried to jump start my car from my Dad's brand new motor. With my Dad's car not even started, as soon as I clamped the positive on my battery the alarm started going nuts.

I tried the key fob and putting the key into the ignition and turning it. The alarm did go off after a minute or so but then started again soon after. Thinking the battery in the key fob might be flat, I bought a new battery from Tesco (thank goodness for 24/7) but that made no difference.

The car has been sitting idle since I started commuting to work at the end of last year.

Is it possible that the battery is too dead, baring in mind that the chirping of the alarm was very loud and the lights flashed?

I'm hoping the PH massive come to my rescue yet again, otherwise I'll be on the blower to Volvo.

Thanks in advance.

Alarms do tend to go mental if the battery is low - try removing the battery and charging it fully before starting the car - if the battery is ruined (possible) then try another battery from another car or buy a new one

Thanks. Ended up getting it towed by my Dad. Trust it to be one of the hottest days of the year with no power steering hehe

After removing the jump leads, there was no power whatsoever, so it could be just down to a flat battery. Going to my Dad's after to work to give the car a much needed clean and will also charge the battery.

I also started a thread in the p&p. The guy at my local Volvo dealership suggested removing the fuse for the central locking (fuse 6) but that made no difference.

Thanks for taking an interest and your suggestion. I will update if and when I get it started.
