Hi.

I have been looking at some of the PH / autotrader adverts and noticed that more than a few seem to have had either new gear boxes or, less commonly, new engines.

Is their an inherent fault with them or are the owners just unlucky. I am thinking of a 6 year old one. Thanks

From wht i read when buying mine.. it was the gearboxes on the petrol versions tht caused problems.

There are other issues though.. Fuel pipes and injectors are prone to leaking on earlier models (make sure the recall work was done to replace the fuel lines.

The Spline gear and drive shaft was a weak point for the rear drive. A lot of these have been replaced with the recall with stronger uprated items. again check that this has been carried out.

The Radio ICM module is prone to failure.. I am currently fighting with the dealer to get this replaced.

There was rubber bung between the engine and gearbox which is likely to come out. Again not a major issue, but if it does the part to fix costs £5, but the labour is in excess of £500 as the gearbox needs to be removed to gain access to replace the part.

I hope this helps!

Needless to say my volvo is up for sale, and i will not be buying another one to soon.

Yes.. But it is a recall issue on most models prior to the updated D5 engine.

Its not expensive to fix, just annoying
