Ok.... after much umming and arring between Mercs, BMers and Skodas have decided to go back to V70 as main family car.

But, do I spent £14k and get a low mileage old shape V70 with all the bells and whistles or do I find another £4k (which I haven't got!) and buy a new model maybe with higher miles? I will be keeping it for 4-5 years and doing mainly motoways miles.

What do you think?

Thanks

Phase III cars are lovely. For £18K you will find a Sport / Lux. Well option loaded over the SE.

If you are racking up the miles ......do not expect much more than 40MPG from the D5/2.4D. Also if diesel, ensure FSH and all recalls complete (cases of engines letting go in the EuIV have been known).

Go back and try the 530d Tourer yes In my view, one of the best all round cars. 535 is better still, but over valued.

I currently have an old shape V70 (the sort of age you're looking for) and personally prefer the look of mine over the current shape....it's a personal thing though obviously. If you're looking for a diesel, then the D5 has 185bhp regardless of which age car you look at.

You kind of answer your own question don't you, if you say you don't have the extra 4K you need to buy the newer shape car.

I would have thought the end of run model should be more reliable than an early newer model as all the niggles should be sorted out by the end of a run. As mentioned above the diesel isn't the most economical in mine, but if you drive under 80 on the motorway it's pretty decent still. I'm currently averaging 37mpg for the life of the car. I find it nippy enough for most situations, a stupidly big boot and the comfiest seats of any car I've ever been in.

Hope that helps.
