Dont be tempted by cheapies - OE only is the order of the day.
This is by far the most cost-effective method mate. the bushes are about 50 quid and the job can be done in 4 hours or so.

Pattern wishbones won't last a year from what I've seen.
The powerflex stuff tightens up the steering and eliminates the wooly feel.

Fit 'n' forget too smile

This.

OE arms last 40K
Patterns 15K

Oh, and don't pop the driveshaft out, bloody nightmare if you do.

What's the cost difference between OEM and pattern? I'd google it but not sure i'll get the right thing.

Sounds like a job for my garage mate though. Me, tools and fire don't mix.

As low as £60 a pair for Chinese st.

OE are usually around £200 IIRC, someone will verify though.

The only non-OE stuff I would consider are MeyleHD - available for £180 a pair.
I have meyle HD rear bushes on my front wishbones and they're brilliant. The powerflex front bushes have been in there for 3 years and about 30k miles and are still fresh as a daisy smile

I kept my OE set to rebush with powerflex, never did it and they are currently 'somewhere' in the garage biggrin

If you ever find them and get the urge to sell them, give me a shout smile

Thought I'd resurrect an old thread with a query.

I've had an S60 for a couple of months (2005 facelift Euro 3 163 bhp manual) and I'm slightly disappointed with the mpg I'm getting and wondered if I'm being unrealistic?

I'm getting a measured 50 mpg, but I was hoping for more - to explain, my commute is c56 miles each way, of which the majority is dual carriageway or motorway. At the moment about 25 miles of M1 is 50 mph average speed limited and I cruise at 70 on the dual and the rest of the motorway. My average speed is generally 50-52 per tank. Given that and the fact that I'm pretty laid back on the commute in any event I was hoping for mid/high 50s.

Am I just greedy or should I be doing slightly better - welcome thoughts.

It should be higher. Mine was similar until I changed the MAF for a genuine Bosch part.

The problem is the MAF degrades over time but the engine is strong enough to hide it, and excessive fuel consumption is a symptom of this.

Likely never, I think. It's a very sound car with 78K miles, good history, but it needs a bit of tlc, it seems.

By the way, it's the worst fuel consumption liar I've ever had! 59ish on the guage equated to a measured 50.5...

Might be a good idea to do it after the diesel leak (from a place as yet to be determined) I forgot to mention has been fixed, mind!

Volvo buffs - any idea if this car is a Euro 3? I'm thinking it is.

I'm not even sure if I'm interested anyway given that it's Geartronic and I've heard mixed reports. I'd love an auto but I gather these are a bit flaky, and they sap 10mpg off the fuel consumption... May have a drive anyway assuming it's Euro 3 smile

ETA - I've answered my own question, it's EURO 3, has a black engine cover smile

I've said it a few times in the past, but mine only averaged 42 mpg over 40,000 or so miles. I always set the cruise to 70 on the motorway too. I once got a high of 50 from a tank, but it was a one off and entirely on the motorway.
I think there's a bit of variance with these cars, some people report 50 plus, others low 40's.

I averaged 47mpg over 120,000 miles. High was about 52 or so on a run to Cornwall, tbh it would always cruise at 80-90 so it could have been better. It's still a fantastic package IMO.

After a little advice.

What's the thoughts on this 55 plate D5 Euro 3 for £4250? (the lowest he will take)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321817001296

It looks immaculate, I'm really tempted, I know it's a little high in price but surely worth a bit more in that condition?

Just looking for something comfy, reliable and good on fuel. these are ticking all the boxes right now, I do quite a lot of miles and my current Audi RS3 is just costing way too much with a wedding next year, the S60 would be a car for 12-18 months until that's out of the way and I've always liked them since my father bought a new one in 2002.

Is that just way too much money even for a complete minter with 51k on it?

You can have my 51k miles 05 plate d5 manual for £4k. Much better spec than that one as ex volvo UK car. Spec includes xenons, sunroof, premium (13 speaker) audio,GSM phone kit.

Mines a euro 3 but facelifted model.

Sounds good, do you have a way I can contact you for more information/pictures? Thanks.

recently bought a gem!

S60 D5 auto late 2004 49k miles!

First owner was a dealer for 3 months and the 2nd owner all its life! every service including invoice from Volvo including tyres!. I was after the the top spec, but ended up with a SE with a few options..

Although the car never needed it, i gave it a full service including some fresh gear oil, following the gibbons method.

Best daily cruiser ive owned cant see myself getting rid of it.

I've only ran it on V-power and i'm getting around 660 miles to a tank that's town and motor driving, im assuming there is no harm in using Vpower for long term use?
