if you look at the pic of the service book the last 3 services show a mileage greater than 19,500.
I think you are looking at the mileage when the next service is due. The last service was at c. 15k miles
That's clever as mine tells me when it is due, it isn't set mileage AFAIK.

Last service 2009?

Not enough miles per year for me. I'd prefer one that has been used and looked after.
Same.
The worst (reliability) cars I've came across personally are ones that haven't been used regularly.

I'd rather a high miler with a folder full of receipts.

Agreed - I'd be worried at the lack of miles. As for servicing my service book is the same as the one in the pic which includes 'next service' - I think on the Euro iii engine it's 12k miles but I might be wrong. It seems from the pic that last service was 2009 at 15k unless the vendor hasn't photographed the next page.
I'll have to have a look at my service book, it might well be the same tbh...I just get it done when the "routine service required" message pops up on the drivers information display.

What is the issue with the rear brakes? I've owned mine for over 2 years now and have only heard it mentioned recently
the OEM rear shoes corrode, lifting the friction material that then comes away and wrecks the hub.

Not much fun.

I put mintex ones on mine as a precaution.

btw My OH is now the owner of my beloved S60 D5...I have a new toy.

So best to change the rear shoes as prevention?

Whats the toy?
I did, it is cheap and easy to DIY.

I bought an Audi S4 Quattro avant cloud9

Ha ha. No wonder it didn't run very well. I'm actually surprised at the extent of the damage, every one of the intake valves has suffered. Exhaust ones look ok on first glance though.

I'm just glad I wasn't relying on it to get to work.

Stripping it is giving me something to do of an evening, rather than vegetating with the laptop.
It is interesting stripping engines down.

What colour is your car btw?

My pleasure mate. You not tempted to sell the S60...?
No chance The S60 is a keeper, too good to part with...MissB is the registered keeper now, she loves it.
We expect to see 200+k on the clock while it is in OHs hands.

Great car.

I expect the answers to this will probably go along the lines of "ask a daft question, get a daft answer", it's a Volvo etc etc but bear with me...

What's the build quality like on the S60? I'll be looking at Euro 4, 05 onwards??

I ask because having driven a RenaultSport Megane for the past 2 years I'm adamant that the next car is going to be screwed together properly and it won't rattle...or squeak....or shake......or vibrate......or creak!

Having never been in a modern Volvo I hope the answer is, "not a single squeak and its done half a million miles"
170k miles.

One rattle on the rear door card, which I could solve with 20mins work I am sure - just not got round to it.

No squeaks or creaks.

My 155k mile V70 T5 was quiet as a mouse.

They should be completely solid and quiet to moon mileage.
My MissB's 160+k 2002 S60 D5 SE...no squeaks, rattles or knocks.

A truly fantastic car.

Just to add a bit of variety, mine had a few rattles. One was cured by the application of a piece of self adhesive foam, another only surfaced occasionally, and usually at fairly high (ie not exactly 70mph) speeds, but I never found its source (by the OSF wheel, I think). There were a few other minor rattles around the cabin, but I suspect they were CD cases banging together.
On that note mine had the wheel nut locking socket in the passanger sidepocket along with a couple of pens...took me ages to trace the funny rattle. rolleyes

Cheeky bd hehe

I was more concerned about the difference in fuel economy and the autobox's tendency to implode (A Lex, that is correct, non?). Will consider them if im proven wrong though. I suppose on the other hand, DMFs and clutches aren't cheap on the manuals....Ho hum.
buy a manual that has had the clutch and dmf done.

Probably a bit steep at £5.5k, but it looks very clean, has great spec and still represents a lot of car for the money. I'm trying to resist going to view it though, as I don't want temptation getting the better of me and I'm still a bit concerned that the running costs of one of these over something more mundane may be too much for what will essentially be a workhorse.

I see you're south-west based. Are you going to see it? It's still up on AT.

Edited by pstruck on Thursday 9th May 10:07
That is HUGELY over priced.

As a comparison i paid £2800 for mine with then 96k on it. Also immaculate.
At £5.5k that is HUGELY overpriced!!! yikes

....or does it have £2.5k worth of used £20s stashed in the glovebox? wink
