It's possible the Lego stuff at TRU won't be discounted a whole lot and if it doesn't sell will be sent back to Lego. I wouldn't be surprised if Lego hasn't been extending much credit to them for a while now, maybe even keeping ownership of the stock until sold then TRU get their cut.
I went to Peterborough branch two weeks ago and they had 1 911 and 3 or 4 Parisian restaurant along side some random small City, Ninjago and some other bits and bobs of no interest.
The Mrs really wants the restaurant, but even with their 15% off it was still the same price as on the Lego store!
I heard on the news late last night that a lot of stores were closing today, I wonder if there is any chance of there being any last day final reductions?
I'd go for a quick look but its an hour drive round trip that I really don't have time for this morning

We did box 1 of the 911 GT3 last night, or the Mrs did. I'm not convinced it's operating properly. The gears change when you operate the paddles but if I turn both back wheels in one direction the pistons in the engine don't move but if I turn the cog that's right at the back they do as does the driveshaft.

It could be the common 2 gears at once selection problem, google gear selection problems and you should find the fix. It involves reversing the swinging arms in the paddle mechanism and that stops the whole system jumping back slightly. There's also a fix for the endless gear change.

I've got a £40 voucher to spend and was looking for some Technic Lego to fritter it on, but struggling to find anything that floats my boat. I've been building up all my old models for my son (almost 3) to play with and as a result I've been picking up the odd new (old) set on eBay - don't tell the Wife!
I picked up one of the newer models because it was cheap, but it was really disappointing compared with the older stuff, all bespoke parts, fairly hollow inside, flimsy and the new gears don't really work properly. The structural parts are so different now that it's really not the same stuff anymore. And there's such a wide range of bits that although the models may look closer to the right shape, you're left with hardly any cross-compatibility so you can't really spend a day combining all your sets into a giant tractor and trailer or whatever.
I've looked at some of the newer big kits and they look more impressive, but so much bespoke stuff I'm left thinking once I've built it I'll never take it in bits because I'll never need to borrow bits for some random build, so it'll never need to be rebuilt. So you might as well just spend the money with Tamiya and end up with something that does 60mph round the garden once it's built.
Do the new models still have an alternate build option?
Anyway, it's a bit of a shame really, the stuff I grew up with was really good for combining engineering and imagination and great for leaving you with a big box of bits to build whatever you fancied. It's almost as if it's aimed at adults now, as kids don't care that the model is only vaguely the right shape and don' want to spend half the build doing fiddly aesthetic bits. I'm sure there would be a market for both too.
Today the postman brought me set 850 from the 1970s, that's a whole new level of basic, with the steering being all individual pivot plates! Just a small fork-lift, but really neat and so good for teaching some mechanics.
Anyway, I've got two of the Test Cars, two of the pneumatic back hoe JCBs, a newer crane, 4 of the Universal sets from the 80s (they are medium sized sets that make 6 or so small models), various motor bikes and small vehicles, and the postman brought me the Compressor Truck this week, which I think was the pinnacle of Technic design.

Have a look at rebrickable.com under the MOC section, people create models from bought sets and you can buy instructions cheaply.

I liked that I can add all my sets and it'll show me all the stuff I have the bits to make!
