I'm itching to get one of those bugattis, I've not built anything since the GT3 came out. I'm trying to hold out for Christmas.

More progress - not much left to go, hoping to finish it off tonight:

Assuming you also built the 911, how does it compare?

It's dissapointing that the shift paddles take up the entrie footwell. I can't remember the porsche being like that.

Still looks like a great build though.

It was pretty much the same, the steering column and paddles were a big lump

You assume correctly:

Finished the Chiron late last night. In terms of a side-by-side comparison of the finished models, I think I prefer the Chiron to the 911. There's definitely room for improvement around the bonnet area in the Chiron, but the side profile, rear and front grill are dealt with very nicely given the inherent limitations of Lego Technic. The interior of the Chiron is also a vast improvement over the 911, although in fairness this may just be a reflection of the differences between the actual cars in real life.

Areas where I would say the Chiron is a noticeable improvement over the 911:
  • Interior
  • Engine (pistons are exposed in the Chiron, and the engine cover is easily removed to expose the whole engine)
  • Front grill/headlights
  • Overall body shape - I prefer the way that the A pillars and rear roofline are constructed entirely in Technic brick elements in the Chiron, whereas the Porsche relies on flex tube in these areas
Areas where I would say the 911 outscores the Chiron:
  • Bonnet - in the 911 the bonnet is a pretty good fit for the opening marked out by flex tubes, whereas the Chiron... well, you can see for yourself from the photos
  • Body/chassis construction - the Chiron is built in two halves (front/rear) which are then joined together, and the exterior is gradually built up by adding panels one at a time. With the Porsche, it's relatively easy to remove the body from the chassis and expose the mechanicals. I suspect it would be difficult to do so in the Chiron, without going backwards through hundreds of steps...
I took quite a lot of photos during the build, so if anyone's interested in more pics I might start a retrospective build/review thread rather than clogging up the general Technic thread. I'm not 100% happy with the drivetrain performance (pistons move rather jerkily) and suspect that I may have made an error somewhere in the gearbox, so I'm debating whether to try deconstructing the rear end to extract the gearbox... might leave it assembled for a few days at least though wink

Edited to fix typos rolleyes

Not sure if it has... but not exactly inspiring are they?

How many Technic cranes do I need?

Prefer the crawler crane to be honest. Not much there at all.

I'm not interested in any of those sets, I wish they would do a big cat dumper truck.

Now that I would have but just because I develop parts for the fuel system on the 797 truck. I doubt there would be that much of interest as a Technic set.

I've always liked fork lift trucks and quite like the crane as well, but as others have said, how many cranes do you need. Not interested in the other bits.

That crane looks like a hybrid of the previous big mobile crane plonked on the Claas tractor chassis.
