Has anybody done the Lego Technic Volvo 42114 6x6 tipper yet? What's it like as a build, and what's the functionality of the controls like?
No ..but just finished the Volvo 42030 bucket truck all the functions are good and work well so see the 42114 working the same ..also of the best built is the MB ACOS truck and hiab enjoyed that ,I much prefer the working models as opposed to static ones ie GT3RS RSR .BUGATTI CHIRON .DEFENDER .both the Volvo and ACOS cost me only 90 each so a bargain .
The 42030 is a great build which works really well too.

Huge front bucket means it's primary function is a 'Guinness delivery system'

Have you ever considered a career in marketing? biggrin

Just finished this one at the weekend. Build was fine, but the controls are a bit rubbish for anyone who has used a proper RC model. Moving your finger on a small touch pad for forward/reverse and steering just doesn't do it for me. I think there's supposed to be an alternative control method (presumably separate forward/reverse and steering), but I can't find a way of switching, unlike the Liebherr.

The 3 speed gearbox seems a bit pointless too. In "automatic" mode it just stops moving while it changes gear.

Anybody ever suggested or thought about a 'swap' club done on trust?

Would anybody be interested in swapping sets temporarily? 80% or so of the fun for me is the build and with bigger sets being expensive it could be a way that we could get the enjoyment without the continual outlay?
To be honest, I'm not sure I'd swap with people I only ever engage with on the interweb, however, there are companies that do "hire" Lego sets apparently.

I concur. The build was relatively enjoyable - much like most large Technic models most of time was spent on the gearbox. I did have to do a slight rebuild to get the tipper function to work although that was more my fault than anything.

The controls really do let it down though. The novelty wore off really rather quickly and I ended up taking it apart a couple of weeks after the initial build.

If you’re thinking of buying it for the love of the build, then go for it. It’s worth looking around though as it seems widely available for significantly less than RRP.

Thanks for the replies chaps, looks like i'd be better off spending the money elsewhere, the whole point of buying it was to be able to use it with the 40230 front loader which is not only a great build but very useable especially with the secondary controller as advised by another PH'er on this very thread, but if it's not a good remote model then i'll be buggered if i'm going to throw £200 at it!!!!
Now looking at the Cement mixer and possibly something else!!

Just a quick question for those who have built the 8 wheel crane (42108), how tight is the steering? I’ve just had a go with my lad’s as he was building the boom, and it seems very tight...

I'm halfway through building the mixer (42112) at the moment, only my second build after the mobile crane 42108. Decent for the price, some nice details with the mini differentials on the rear axles.

Do you mean tight as in difficult to alter the steering? Or a tight turning circle?

If the former, I don't find it particularly difficult.

The former, it seems like there is quite a lot of resistance, it doesn’t quite click when it goes to full lock either side but it feels like if I only used one of the beacons to turn (rather than both together) something would give...

Maybe a connection not quite engaged properly in the steering racks? Or another component restricting movement?

Is it the same no matter which beacon you try? Or is one worse than the other?

Enjoying the rough terrain crane build so much.

Only just completed bag 5.

It's huge.

I'd dropped many a hint before Christmas about the rough terrain crane but it seemed to totally disappear from stock at exactly the same time.

A few weeks ago I bought the concrete mixer and only got around to starting it last weekend. Finished it tonight at about 5.5hrs total build time.

Enjoyed it, as I said before some nice little details with the rear differentials and drive train for the drum. I found this one quite fiddly, a lot of the connection pieces took a bit of persuasion.

Will sit well alongside my previous mobile crane.

Both lights, both ways, one option is to do a partial strip down to see if I can identify where the tightness is by separating the linkages. I didn't build it so I think probably I'll go back through the instructions to check it's been assembled correctly but normally he's pretty good....

These are apparently due for release on 1 March - cost £39.99 each.

I wonder when Lego will realise that the hovercraft has military connections!!!!
