There is often an enormous amount of air-space inside many of the boxes, that's for sure. I guess there's a perception of VFM; larger box = higher value.

I'd also like them to move to the paper bags quicker - I hate the amount of plastic bags that have to be thrown away and I'm surprised they haven't been pulled up on it sooner by eco-zealots. Much as I love Lego it's currently environmentally terrible by any measure.
In the weight of plastic in each model. The bags are the least of the green problems.
Usually we're not throwing the bricks away though, the plastic bags we are. I doubt very much that Lego is recyclable either, most coloured plastics aren't as far as I'm aware?

I keep all the plastic bags for when/if I disassemble the model. Not long finished the Airbus helicopter (42145). Really enjoyed it as the last few Technic sets I've built have left me a bit meh. Anyone built the Firefighter plane (42152)?

I've not made Lego since I was 10 or so but had a hankering for some heavy duty set and went in at the deep end with this behemoth - I was quite a while putting it together as it was mainly a few hours at evenings over January when the living room was in a state of Lego mess but it is quite the Lego set
Note - the 1:50 dumptruck is from Conrad, T284 - You can fit 3 of them Mack trucks into the tipper,.,.,

When I finished that Liebherr R9800 I was trying to jog my memory on the last set I done -- I found it and had to go get another set... I will put it together eventually...it was from ebay with many missing bits which I had to get from elsewhere but its all there at the moment - complete BOM.

It's not really the same thing, the Lego is the product while the packaging isn't. I throw all the bags away and I suspect that's not uncommon. I don't think paper bags really have much in the way of disadvantage, I can't see why you couldn't keep those too if you wanted.

Not long until 2025 now I suppose.

I don't keep the plastic bags - they tend to tear wide open so wouldn't be much use for re-use anyway. I suppose you could cut the end off with scissors but that's a level of 'resell-geekery' that even I won't bother going to. I do keep the boxes in mint nick though but if I were to sell any of my kits down the line I'd just use zip-lock bags and number those for the buyer.

I've ended up buying three different sizes of ziplock bags and just put all the similar bits into the same bags. Not bothered sorting back into bags for each step, ALL the black connectors or the Blue with the single and double length in one bag.

The 42143 Daytona is down to £249 at Costco. Smyths have gotten close at £252, same price as Amazon. Lego still want £390!!!!yikes

That makes it VERY tempting!

Just bought Captain Rex helmet from the profit of 42108 Mobile crane sold (used) this morning. Might have to try the wedding list idea…..well we ARE getting married this year and she DOES like Lego …..

That Daytona is on my to do list this year, maybe Christmas... I got a set last year, I think it cost £270 or so. £249 is a bargain, that thing is huge

Jadlam have it at £365.
It was available (after import duty etc) at £318:49 a few days ago from Amazon Germany, so might be worth keeping a look out there.
thumbup
Sold out when I looked sadly.
You could try again, but looking happily?
I had to read that twice. hehe

I just finished the Bolide. Looks nothing like the real one, but quite a decent build, and the teeny-tiny "working" W16 is nice.

Amazon have the Lamborghini Sián down to £239.98 if anyone is after one.
It has been cheaper, but this is the lowest I've seen it on Amazon since the price hike.

And the BMW bike is £139.99, which is nearly the cheapest I've ever seen it. I didn't enjoy it as much as some others though...

If anyone missed 42121 Heavy Duty Excavator, it's on Amazon for £35.39. Which is 40p more than RRP, not awful for a discontuned set.

It was a bit of an underwhelming build tbh.

Any consensus on what the best Technic car is? A pal is building the Daytona, and the gearbox is pretty nice. Of the Lamborghini, Chiron and Ferrari, which is the best (or are they all basically the same mechanically? Thanks.

I’ve built all of them - and the Porsche. The gearbox has been refined through the sets - the Ferrari one has more elastic bands and works by far the best.

Looks pretty cool. Not sure how complex though. I've got the old Le Man's racer and Chiron yet to build.

Together with x-wing that’s going to be an expensive trip

That’s extremely similar to the 24hr racer!
