Check eBay. Some of the stuff is ambitious but there is an emerging market for collectors of the original models if their in good nick.
Spent all day Sunday at Warhammer world with a few PHers. Makes me think we should organise something bigger if there's a few more that can make it.

Managed to bag a 5 man squad of marines off eBay for less than a tenner, started assembly last night, only managed to get 2 fully assembled as there is a lot if seam lines to clean up!
As a change of plan I've decided to go with the Raven Guard chapter as the black looks great , hoping I can replicate some of the examples I've seen from various google image searches.

Glad to see this on PH.
I've recently got into the warhammer world. Started building tyranids prior to the new rules. Never finished them as my mate wanted to try age of sigmar so I got a start collecting box of flesh eater courts and we've played a few games, really enjoy it.
Now due to the steam summer sale I got blood bowl 2, was never interested in it but thought I'd give it a bash. Now I'm hooked and bought the board game so been playing that with my mate. Will need to get back to 40k though.

So here's my first attempt so far, Raven Guard grunt with Abbaddon Black power armour, Eshin grey highlights and administratum grey for the edge highlights.
Lordy this is hard work , Black armour is tricky brcause you don't have the benefits/help of a wash, so its all down to the highlights which have to be pinpoint. I can't imagine painting an army of these ..
Reasonably happy with it so far, lots to do still, a little bit of further tidying up but much to do with the gun, eyes, squad markings, base, still lots more paint to buy.....£...£....

I've seen a lot of people go for a really dark grey mixed with a tiny bit of black and then washed with Nuln oil. Really depends on getting the right grey though.
I cannot get my head around edge highlighting. I'm ok with dry brushing but cannot get edge highlighting right.
The general highlights need to be as thin and as neat as you can get them, try to get them no more than 1mm in thickness around the edge of each armour panel - the idea is that you can still see them when the edge highlight is added. I cannot get my head around edge highlighting. I'm ok with dry brushing but cannot get edge highlighting right.
The edge highlight is run along the 'edge' of each panel with the side of the brush, less is more, the thinner you can get that edge highlight, the better, you use the edge highlight on the sharpest edges - i.e. sharp corners and angles, there the edges would in reality catch the most light.
In summary - highlights enhance the edges of the armour, edge highlights are lighter still and make the corners and edges really 'pop'

I was up in the loft earlier and found a few of my old figures that haven't seen the light of day for a good 15 years or more, semi tempted to get the brushes out but I can see that opening up a whole world of cost.
I think there is mostly Necromunda with a few 40k figures.
N3cromunda metal figures can be worth a decent amount. Especially Escher gang figures.I think there is mostly Necromunda with a few 40k figures.
cheers guys.
Bit more progress, black highlights done on 3 now. I'm getting a bit more comfortable with each one, and a thin coat of nuln oil definately helps with any highlights that are a bit harsh or need correcting.
I need a lot more paint for the eyes, markings, purity seals and ammo pouches but fairly happy with how the basic colourscheme looks

Looking great. Have you tried a really light drybrush rather than edge highlighting for your rank and file? Might help you get through it a bit quicker and save edge highlighting for your characters?Bit more progress, black highlights done on 3 now. Cheers I could drybrush them, but to be honest after a couple more Its getting easier, the edge highlights are going down quite quickly and I spent a fraction of the time on the 3rd marine (middle one) than I did on the first , drybrushing is a valid technique but I think it wouldn't look great on black armour where you need crisp highlights and really deep black for everything else.
