Skii, looks like I didn't attempt to paint him after all, not sure I've got the backpack but my brother is going to have another nose through the box.

There’s quite an active batch of PH 40k players around Sheffield. I’m getting on the kill team train

Just finished my 2000pt Alpha Legion army, need to finish my necromunda gangs and then I can start my Salamander and ork armies. And genestealer cults. And my knights.

Damn you GW.

Hell yeah!

Looks bloody superb, and should be a gateway for my better half and kids - 40k is just a tad too big a cliff to climb.

Also already got my order in for the Grand Master edition of Titanicus. Simply no way on earth I'm missing out on that...

After a couple of games - it's good...

Just assembling and painting my starter terrain today, and ordered a complete 20 man deathwatch roster (for upcoming campaign at CGC in Chichester) for under a £100. You'd almost think GW are using it as a gateway drug!

Also, just picked up the Grandmaster Edition of Adeptus Titanicus.

Looks amazing, models are stunning, but...

We're moving house, I've just picked up KT and will be focusing on the campaign over the next few months, it's sold out everywhere (reprint confirmed for January) and they're selling for a pretty decent premium over the pre-order price I paid.

Feel like a GT Porsche flipper, but might just have to leave it sealed and get it on ebay.

enjoying it so far, keep forgetting to use command point and as a guard player issuing orders, but i'm sure with time it will come. mainly playing with unpainted minis for now, need to get on and paint them.

I picked up the Grand Master Edition too. To my mind it's easily the best 'starter box' they have ever put together. And the models are utterly stunning, the Knights are so stupidly high detail for a model shorter than a 28mm Primaris marine!
And the Warlord itself is I think one of the best models that they have put out in any scale. The fact that they are finally releasing models that come all ready for magnetising is a good step forward too (5mmx1mm magnets if you haven't googled)

Looking forward to picking up a couple of Reavers and a few Warhounds when they come out. Also seeing what comes next in Titans... Imperator I would guess will be a Forgeworld item cool

Just found this thread after seeing the Warhammer Conquest magazine in the newsagents! Loving the models that have been posted.

For £2, I thought I'd get one and revisit the childhood, the last time I painted a Citadel Minature they were made of lead alloy!.... Wow, to assemble and partially paint 3 marines, took me almost 2 hours! I might well be getting more to paint as I found it quite therapeutic!

Enjoy chap! You're amongst many 'born again' purveyors... The difference is simply incredible - from model quality, to paints/equipment, through to info and tutorials.

Well worth a trip to a local store for a game of Kill Team too!

I bought the first copy of conquest too, the value at 2 quid is great, won't be buying it on a week by week basis though as although its better value than buying all the individual components i just won't have the time and its still £30 odd quid a month on stuff i have little interest in collecting.

I ended up buying a copy too. Not touched a model in 10+ years.

I've now bought a second copy (to make a full squad) and the Know no Fear Starter set as the Wife said she wants to try it.

It begins (but I won't be buying the Mag going forward).

I was more into the fantasy ones, because I love dragons! never played a game in my life, I just enjoyed the painting.

Going to pop into a GW on Friday as I'm off and see what they have got (the Forge world looks quite nice), I've also got Waylands site going now too!

Just as a thought, can anyone advise what colours are required to fully paint a Space Marine please.

When I used to paint miniatures I never once paid attention to the advised colour schemes, but I’d like to do these properly. I’m just wondering what I’d need v what I can fudge from the airbrush paints I’ve got.

Probably going to pick up a dragon at the weekend, but have a colour scheme in mind for that one that’s not GW!

Pick a Chapter! Pretty much any colours you like - although the big hitters are:

Ultramarines (Blue, white omega symbol)

Dark angels (dark green, love a nice cloak, white winged dagger)

Imperial Fists (yellow, white circle, black outline, black fist)

Blood angels (Red, black winged red blood drop, penchant for scrolls, wings and halos)

Space Wolves (pale grey/blue, black wolfhead on yellow, like beards and norse motifs).

Otherwise, there are dozens of chapters out there covering every main armour colour.

Citadel (GW's paint range) approach is generally - prime, basecoat (high pigment colour base), wash (usually black or dark brown), layer (thinned base coat over everything but the recesses), highlight (one or two tones lighter, on edges).

Can swap the highlight on upper edges with drybrushing.

All accessories - do what you want. Metals, black rifles, all typical modeller acrylic paints.

Oh, and check out YouTube (warhammer TV).

Tonnes of paint tutorials, by the hallowed Lord Duncan of Two Thin Coats.

Everything from 'tip of the day' shorts covering a specific topic/item (such as 'rusted metal') through to 'ready for battle' quick and simple good looking processes, to full model schemes covering a couple of dozen paints.

The ones I’ve watched are 9-12 paints!! I bought these on a whim so not going down that road! I’ve got a good selection of airbrush paints so I’ll see what I can muster up by testing on the sprue. I will have to get a metallic though.

There's simply no need to go that road - but the principles are sound.

If you've got a reasonable selection of acrylic model paints (I almost exclusively use Vallejo airbrush paints) then there's no reason you can't replicate the GW scheme.

GW is a money making colossus. The paint range makes things 'easy' in return for 'requiring' a wide range of expensive small pots of paint. When you consider often out of those 12, at least three will only be used on a tiny detail piece such as a leather pouch, and often there's a couple of different examples on a given model there's just no need to go crazy.

I’ve got 5 translucents and a selection of opaques inc the primary colours plus a couple of pearlescents from Createx.

Actually thinking about it, the trans should do the wash for the recesses, mmm experiment time! Thank you, you’ve planted a seed of an idea! 😀 the pearlescent should work for my dragon idea!!!

Bloody hell! Back when space marines were made if plastic and a tenner for about 20, I just spray painted them black, with a rattle can not an airbrush ,scrawled a Blood Angels thingy on the shoulder, a bit of silver and onto the table. Maybe that's why I lost a lot smile
