It's been a fairly hectic period for me, so not massive movement or hobby time.. Played my first game of Horus Heresy - i lost but it was really good!

The major thing to report is that i went from this:

then stripped, disassembled and modified the sculpt to this:

https://legiotraitoris.blogspot.com/2019/02/roses-...

I'm running a 12,000pt per side Apocalypse game in the summer and my 6k is currently looking very Khornate, so i'm taking the opportunity to strip and repaint my World Eaters now,

For an idea of the scale of this thing!

That looks so much better than the original - can't believe you've managed to reshape the huge lumps of resin that are the wings!

Moved into new house on Friday - making the start of my gaming room. First step, get everything (almost!) in one place...

Nice work Havoc, that looks terrific!

Anyone else seen the new Imperial Assassin's rules leaked from March's White Dwarf?

https://spikeybits.com/2019/02/breaking-40k-offici...

Each of them looks absolutely ridiculously powerful in its own role.

Assassins are now broken. 1CP to be able to pick whichever one is best suited to your specific opponent at the beginning of each game?

Utterly ridiculous power within a tournament environment...

Some of the other strats are seriously tasty too.

Not complaining, just how it is. Imperial soup is the de facto power army within 8th, and that's not going to change listening to the designers.

Really hoping they follow up with an announcement of new plastic kits... They'd go perfect for the deathwatch/sororitas army I'm planning for the summer. Throw in a Knight and I'm off to some tournaments!

Thanks Youngsyr!

Yeah that assassin rule is utterly terrible for play.

And here i am hoping for an update to make Chaos Space Marines better and not the ginger step child to the every other faction.... It'd be nice if An'ggrath wasn't 888pts to start... Ah well, hello darkness my old friend...

Well, Abaddon is coming soon and the model looks Guilleman sized, so I think the spikes space marines week be OK.

Question for those that have interesting bases on your models, how do you do it?

Mine are positively flat and boring!! I’ve tried sand, cat litter and superglue with baking powder but nothing that gives any depth.

Easiest way is to buy some pre-moulded resin bases on eBay - not the cheapest, but all you have to do is paint them.

If you want to get involved in creating them yourself, then you can use this like slate or broken up Cork tiles to make rocky outcrops and building rubble.

You can also use modelling clay to make interesting shapes, pva glue to make liquids /water and different thickness wire to make barbed wire.

Probably best to take a look at the basing tutorial videos on YouTube to get a full run down. thumbup

All good tips.

One I found recently that makes some awesome bases quickly and easily was using bark chips (the sort in playgrounds or flower beds).

Painted grey, washed with agrax and drybrushed with pale grey they make great boulders.

For my bases I went to Homebase and bought a bag of Planter rocks (they do all sorts of types and colours) and a bag of sharp sand (again all the colours you'll want)... then wandered over to the adhesives isle and bought a few tubes of UHU. I think that came to £7 and I've still got enough to base another two armies worth.

I use Ballast Bond for gluing sand to the base.

Once bought, it's a case of carefully UHU rocks to the base to build a scene and then scatter sand over the relevant areas. Drizzle Ballast Bond over the sand and leave to dry. Then drybrush the rocks with a light grey.

Not sure if advertising is allowed on here, but if anyone wants the rules, cards, maps, counters etc for 40k Urban Strike, I'd sell them to a PHer for £25 delivered. I bought the (£50 box set), but only want the scenery out of it.

Will try and get a half decent picture of my 20+ year old original metal Vindicare Assassin up over the weekend - I dug him out of a case he'd been hiding in for all that time after the new rules were leaked. thumbup

Awesome work!

Really slow on the hobby front at the mo - just moved house, and although I've now got a dedicated gaming room, guess which is the one room where zero boxes have been unpacked...

Echo what Sam has put... Awesome!

And... Hobby has been slow, i've base coated my broken Kharn after building him into an Exalted Champion, and finished one Decimator... but that's it.

Cheers Sway, I've only got very limited time myself, so am trying not to "let perfect be the enemy of good".

Whilst I'd love to own models that are Havoc's standard of painting, I have to accept that I only get a couple hours a week at best to paint, so better than table top standard just isn't possible, unless I only finish one model a month and I'll lose interest way before that!

Cheers Havoc. Would love to be able to spend a weekend working on a model, but "good enough" will have to do for now!

One day I'd like to have a crack at a model like this work in progress posted over on Reddit...

I'd love to learn NMM too. Just love the aesthetic.

Recently watched a vid with an awesome technique not using paints at all - instead using Daler-Rowney acrylic inks over a white base. Simply inkredible (sorry!), very fast, seemingly very easy blending and vibrancy/intensity with whites/yellows in a single application that takes dozens of layers with Citadel paints...

Planning on giving that a try with my Adeptus Titanicus models I've been saving.

I've also a plan for my Deathwatch using what should be some simple techniques with the airbrush. If I'm right, it should give really nice results really very quickly.

The "cheats" available now to elevate the end result whilst also taking far less time are just amazing in comparison to the techniques prevalent when I was a spotty teenager.

Agreed and it shows in the quality of work average Joe's are putting out - a lot of the better amateur painters would have been Golden Demon contenders 20 years ago. The Calgar WIP above is a good example.

The models are also much easier to paint, being bigger with better defined edges and details. Painting the metal Apothecary model above really showed me the difference.

I simply won't touch metal or fine cast models.

Simply not worth the effort.

Oh, I tell a lie. I did buy Eisenhorn. Just had to...

Still boxed though! He won't get painted until I've bought his retinue from Artel W, and elevated my skills to do them all justice.
