I simply won't touch metal or fine cast models.

Simply not worth the effort.

Oh, I tell a lie. I did buy Eisenhorn. Just had to...

Still boxed though! He won't get painted until I've bought his retinue from Artel W, and elevated my skills to do them all justice.
I can understand that. They do have the benefit of being cheap though (second hand) and easy to strip. 30 minutes in Isopropyl and a good scrub had 99% of the paint off of that model. From there you just have to accept that you won't be as crisp as a newer model and you may have to go back and cover up paints.

My recently purchased/constructed wet pallette is a revelation for this, so easy to cover up mistakes when you have all the colours you've used ready right there in front of you. No having to go back, find the pot, open it and get the paint ready again. Just a quick brush wash, and away you go.

Question for those that have interesting bases on your models, how do you do it?

Mine are positively flat and boring!! I’ve tried sand, cat litter and superglue with baking powder but nothing that gives any depth.
So was working on some bases today (need to upgrade some older models to the new larger sized bases for characters and add some height to the stumpy old Space Marines!) and thought I'd share with you some snaps.

The middle two models are on a simple ripped up cork tile base, stuck down with PVA glue, sprayed black and then drybrushed dark grey, mid grey and light grey in reducing amounts as the colours get lighter.

You can get the cork tile on ebay for a few quid delivered, think mine is the 3mm thick one.

Second pictures shows some WIP on the techmarine's new base plus another for a dreadnought. thumbup

Thought you guys might enjoy seeing the Calgar progress from a Reddit user (thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/avd2tn... )

Stunning.

Good shout on the Cork, really simple to make great scenic bases.

Another way of using it is running it through a food processor, giving loads of size variation. Mixed with sand, it becomes a really realistic gravelly tundra type ground.

Calgar is stunning - I'll try and dig out the chap whose spent over a year, and has just finished Mortarion's scythe... Just obscene how skilled (and patient!) some of these peeps are.

I just try to keep in mind that paint jobs like that take a huge amount of time and practice and use them as inspiration.

I think that guy has around 20 hours into that model already (plus years of practice).

I've just finished this dread and it took me much less than half that, so I can be happy that is a good result for the time invested.

Anyone want the Chaos Possessed Daemonkin half of the ShadowSpear box set?

Would like the Primaris half, but have no use for the heretics!

It's likely to be around £40.

Really like the look of the new sector imperialism scenery, so managed to pick some up and got one piece done already...

What set did you get?

I'm really tempted by some more Sector Imperialis, and then some additions from the new sector Fronteris sets - to segue through to my "badlands" plywood sets I bought from TT Combat.

Not a huge fan of the Sector Mechanicus stuff.

Oh, and got a mate willing to do this - I'm happy to arrange.

RRP is £105, I get a smidgeon over 20% off, which would cover postage out. So primaris half for £42 if that works for you?

Works for me Sway - would like the Primaris Vanguard minis, codex and the campaign book if possible? Thanks for offering. thumbup

I bought the Urban Conquest box set and then sold on all of the non-scenery stuff. I've got a load of sector imperialis buildings and statues to build and paint at some point, easily enough to fill a 40k board, so wanted some additional scatter scenery to liven it up.

The scenery you get in the box is this (the scale of the statues and drain doesn't really come across in the pictures, they're massive, easily LoS blocking for troops):

Pretty sure that works - will ask him if he's fussed by the campaign book. Don't think he is...

Sorted. He's not bothered by the campaign book at all.

Same address as before bud? I'll give you a shout once it's in (although I'm overseas from Monday through to 23rd).

Sounds good. I'm happy to do it from my end if you're away? Would just need your mate's address and to send him my paypal details (unless he wants any death guard models for a swap, I have a shed load still on the sprue from the magazine)?

I've already got the order in - and am making use of my "little extra" discount compared to the standard 20% off pre- orders. It should be split and sent out while I'm away, and you can send over payment once received. I may not get real time confirmation though!

Don't think he'll be interested in DG, but I might well be - I sold all my plague marines as my 40k army made zero use of them, but now aiming for a roster for every faction for kill Team...

Great, thanks. thumbup

Let me know about DG - not sure which models can play in KT, but I've certainly got plague marines, pox walkers, biologus putrifier, terminators, Lords, etc, sitting on their sprues.

I'll take any plague marines and pox walkers you've got chap. Oh, and the purifier - he's a beast in 40k and running 2 isn't overkill.

KT is troops mainly - no 2+ armour (mostly!).

Can never have enough pox walkers (and they're so fun to paint purely with washes), and plague marines form the core.

You say that, but I have a lot of pox walkers and plague marines! hehe

This is just part of what I've got:

Let me know what you're after and what you've got to swap. smile
