As for what I've been working on - nothing 40k (indeed, I sold my 40k army yesterday - just haven't been playing as 8th evolved into something not very fun).

Have been painting a fair bit for my on hold Sigmar escalation league. Warning - sunglasses might be needed!

Akhelian King to come and take over leadership now that st's going down in the narrative...

With Sharky boi escort/guards (there's a pair of these):

I've also started on Him. The Great A'mother ******* Tuin, Leviadon of all Leviadon (he's been a jokey death star like character within our gaming group, despite being fairly average as a big unit!). He's not needed for another couple of rounds, but bought him from local store at start of lockdown to flow some cash into them and take some stock:

As with the entire army, these are all done pretty much solely with Contrast paints. That was the aim, to give me a project where I could really play with them and see what they can do using a variety of techniques.

They should just go back to 2nd edition and nerf characters a bit. Nothing was more fun than getting to fire that multimelta and rolling the 20 sided dice!

Yep!

Hoping that 9th brings in some of the bits from Sigmar (hero phase, limited CP, auras turn into "pick one" instead of a bubble) - if that happens, and the Crusade narrative rules look good - then I guess I'll be getting another 40k army!

Sway that giant turtle thing (sorry no clue on names in warhammer, sorry Sigmar) looks fantastic - easily mistaken for a real shell!

Cheers! That was the idea.

Most of it gets covered by a big howdah, typical!

He's an Akhelian Leviadon. Fairly fast, and pretty tanky but not vast damage output.

Gives everyone within a bubble the benefit of cover, which is nice.

I helped the organiser of our escalation league with the fluff and missions, so I've got a bit of an inside track. He's a centrepiece, along with the King and the Eidolon (cool god thing that's a dude floating on a massive wave cloak).

I have a load of the old lead imperial guard troops, Tallern dessert raiders, cadien shock troops and some valhallans. Seems they are worth quite a bit now

Anyone following on twitch? Quite glad the codexes and PA books are still relevant with the new edition.

I would have been furious if they had not - one of them was delivered just a few days ago. For it to immediately go out of date would have pushed me over the edge.

The only reason we even have editions is so that GW can squeeze more money out of its customer base. And I find it amazing that people lap it up like they've actually been given a present?!

Here you go, you need to buy a whole new rule book and loads of new stuff just to replace the rule book and stuff you bought a couple of years ago. Enjoy!
Oh wow! Thank you so much! How cool is this?!

Yeah I’m more into painting but really enjoy the games I’ve been having with my work colleagues. But I struggle with the rules and the number of books - e.g my small blood angels need codex, chapter approved, blood of Baal, FAQs....

Hopefully this new app means it is one central location for all army rules that get updated with FAQs, points updates etc.

If the new app takes the best from Azyr and Warscrolls builder, then it'll be a winner.

Having digital codices automatically by buying the paper based one is great too.

So far, I'm mildly impressed. They seem to have done what they did with AoS - release effectively an entirely new game, then create a holistic update to the rules (but not the codices/campaign books) to really make it work.

Things like tanks being prevented from shooting by a cheap chaff unit being within an inch is daft.

Tonnes of new units being leaked too.

Only thing I'm currently unsure about is the claim every army will have a tonne more command points. Spamming strategems is one of the worst aspects of 8th. Making that more common/equal does not necessarily a better game make.

GeeDubs are a million times better than they used to be in the bad old days. Still not perfect - but overall they have a growing and pretty happy customer base. I don't see that changing.

Tyranids could do with some love, for sure. Eldar too. Glad necrons have got some new minis tho, and they look great.

Chaos space marines will be getting some love via the Fabius Bile plot line they've announced.

Eldar really need all the aspects to get plastic kits. I'd instantly buy into a craftworlds/ynnari army if they did that, I'd love a full Aspect Warrior (with some nice wraith support) force.

Taking a break from a lot of historical wargame stuff, I've dived into the necromunda box that's been lurking in my to do pile. Here's "Bonesnapper" the Goliath Ganger

I used the GW painting guide by Duncan Rhodes as a guide.
