Does anyone know if there is anywhere from which spare parts are available for U/T 1/18 scale models? I purchased a model of BMW Z3 M Coupe (Cosmos Black)last year. I did manage to get the model a little cheaper because it had one door mirror missing (RHS), would be great to get this missing part to make the model complete.
Alternatively anyone any good at fabricating such as small part?
You have just given me an idea....Alternatively anyone any good at fabricating such as small part?
I have just bought a 3D printer.
Once it's all set up, that would make an interesting "beginner's project"
We recently moved house, and the previous owners left these for my 5 year old. Play-worn, but the Hot wheels haven't been touched since. This could be the start of a long relationship...!! (the 250LM is 1:24 scale, the rest 1:18). I would love to keep them as models, but they are already worn so are now toys.
Ooooh, me me me me! Since I've just lost half an hour drooling through this thread... and since I just managed to invent enough man-maths justification to buy a new car, can I have a go too?
Rather boringly, I only collect Mazda rotary models. I love most cars with almost brainless egalitarianism, but I have neither the space nor the money to collect all the things I'd like to collect. So I have to limit myself to just the Mazdas.
This new one is modeled from the Series 1 RX-7 that's actually on display in the Mazda HQ museum in Hiroshima. I believe the official Mazda paint colour is "Mach Green" but on the FB forum it's affectionately known as "Mushy Pea". And yes, the real cars did have that wonderfully 70s tartan upholstery. Detail is amazing in this model, as you'd expect from AutoArt
As to some of my others, well you'd have to have a model of the best* Group C racer ever. Still the only Japanese car ever to win Le Mans and the only non-reciprocating engined one... probably ever.
*subjective
I've also got a pair of Kyosho FD RX-7s... one is a Series 6 and one a Series 7 (the silver one). Great detail here, too, although you can see where the extra budget for AutoArt and suchlike goes; the side markers are transfers rather than mouldings, for example
Of course, one would have to have the Rexes from "those" films, really. I don't care what anyone says, they're great escapist nonsense and at least brought many tuner cars into a wider awareness. [/excuse mode]
Rather better a film was Initial D (though the books were better yet if nothing else as a work of art). My 1:18th scale Second-gen FC RX-7 is based on the one from the film (loosely) though you might notice it's not a superb quality model. The wheels are also completely wrong! I'd love to get one of the yellow MazdaSpeed-kitted FD too one day
Then I've got a couple of tuner styled things. A bit cheesy and Barryesque, but kinda fun in a way. Quite a bit of authentic "name brand" detailing for cheapy models, too
Most of my models are smaller scale; 1:43rd and smaller. And this is where they all live;
yes, the 1:6th scale Princess Leia is probably my favourite

How do you rate the Otto models? Equivalent to Autoart?
Otto models are made of resin and sealed. AutoArts are generally diecast with opening door/bonnets and boots. Diff to compare. AutoArts are a lot more expensive. In terms of detail and finish, Otto are v decent indeed. Their QC used to be a bit dubious but they've stepped up their game in the last year or so. Macro Manta. by shurst2011, on Flickr
