Cheers for the replies. I shall have a look at other options. I've bought quite a few City sets at below Lego list price from Smyths, so I'll double check ToysRUs etc for comparative prices and order from Lego with my VIP card for points on the stuff I can't find cheaper elsewhere.

Just finished BIG BEN,although a little repetitive still a very highly detailed and enjoyable build...

For my next build I'm moving onto Technic's with the Porsche 911 GT3 sat waiting to be opened......

Picked up an interesting set today....

Got this 90% complete. Need to order a dozen or so parts to complete as expected. Not sure why it's not a technic set as it's almost all technic pieces?

I'm not sure what the tie-in was, but I have the space shuttle from the Discovery range. Think there were only a few sets: your Mars Rover, the space shuttle Discovery and, IIRC, Apollo 11. All done at different scales and in different ways, so only connected by the space theme and the Discovery branding rather than being part of Technic or whatever.

ETA: I was a couple of sets out - check Brickset: http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Discovery
The Moon Lander is almost like Space Lego, the shuttle is a bit Model Team and the Mars Rover is clearly Technic. Interesting range.

I don't think this 'leak' of the Caterham has been posted on here before:

That looks bloody awful compared to the original design.

This angle looks better: http://zusammengebaut.com/lego-ideas-caterham-seve...

Aside from the things that were simply never going to happen (such as the custom exhaust shielding) it's only really the rear arch that looks out of place compared to the original. Presumably that's down to playability/structural issues.

The original design changed quite a bit even whilst still an Idea as the designer said it would never pass certification as it was. The final Ideas version is quite a bit closer to the official set.

Phew, that looks a lot better - same shot, but I think the aspect ratio is out on the first one.

The only detail i dont really like off-hand the in the gap in the bonnet stripe for those two grills, but that should be fixable.

Anyone have an idea of what itll cost?

The Caterham is $79.99 and EUR79.99 but there's no mention of the sterling price. I'd expect it to be £69.99 on that basis.

By rights, it really ought to be cheaper than that given that was the price point for the other Creator sets like the Mini, which had nearer 1,200 pieces. The Caterham only has 771.

I guess the answer would be that licensing costs push it up....

That annoucement only lists USD 79.99 / EUR 79,99 not the UK price.
Looking at other sets the Super Hero Airport Battle is USA: $79.99, UK: £69.99, EU: 79.99€
So I'd bet it will be £69.99

Ouch, the F40 has 50% more pieces and I would have thought astronomical licencing costs compared to Caterham.

Maybe this is one of those Ideas sets that will have a tiny production run and then quickly disappear and be worth a fortune like the Delorean?

That would be my guess, it's pretty niche so I'm thinking a limited run, that would also explain the higher cost to recoup the development on something that is never going to shift in numbers like the Mini, Beetle, F40 etc.
